Golden says QB has to be more accurate.....

I mean, if Golden came out and said "I think we're all good" two weeks in to camp we would all want him fired. There is always room to improve and good coaches are by definition perfectionists. The tackling will never be good enough. Until the completion % is 100%, it won't be good enough. We are all just chomping at the bit for the season to start and any thing that gets said / any clip we see gets read into more and more with each day.

Very good.
Good point BUT perhaps just perhaps Morris DOES has to be a bit more accurate! It is not a far fetched statement because in the past accuracy has been his Achilles heel. He has smarts, leadership, and big time gun. With all the talent we have we do need him to be accurate. IMO a fair statement if indeed it was meant that way.

Yeah I mean I'm not saying he is perfect, but that even if he was completing 75% right now Golden would probably be saying it needs to be better.

"Dammit! We need to be at 76%. We're a long way from where we want to be."

I'm loving this, because it smacks of the whole team boiling up and about ready to explode from the pressure of heightened self expectation, a lit fuse all fed up with the NCAA bullsh*t, a defense that's apparently catching up and has some added headhunters in attack mode ****ing the good manners folks off, and every **** body's feeling the twitch to take it out on someone & can't wait to hit somebody else.

The coach wants it bad, the players want it bad - haven't felt this vibe (to this extent anyways) from the team in years. Dammit...just stay healthy for a couple more days and let's go kill FAU!

After Friday we need to scale back on the contact a little. Not saying stop, because obviously we need to keep our edge, but after the scrimmage we go into gameplan implementation and I don't want to lose anyone to an avoidable injury. Freak stuff happens, but having Deon Bush re-injure the shoulder in practice, for instance, would not be good news.

I think the players have done a great job w/ their off season work out plans b/c if this was last years team most of our players wouldve been wearing Red jerseys on the side lines by now....

But i think its good to have such intense practices i really think it has more to do with how competitive the players mentalities are now.... The defense and offense dont want to have to run after practice and they both hate when they lose and the other side is celebrating. I think Al Golden set it up for that to happen naturally.

Was it the 30 for 30 that had the former UM players talking about how Game Day was like a cakewalk to them b/c of how intense their practices were?.... WE BACK!

If u just came on this site and did not watch games u would think SM is Tom Brady, luckily a few of us aint too much of a homer to think if u have accuracy u have it and thats it. If u dont u dont but u still can win with a **** load of a running game (inside the tackles).

What I see from practice when the pads r on SM looks like SM from last year which is better than awhole lot of College QBs, but cmon dude is like Mallet....he just got a cannon and has no acc and no touch. I dont care how many academy or 7 on 7 mvps u can get....Saturdays r what matter and results on Saturdays. Teams like U*** FSuck will take the deep ball away u can bet on it, and thats when he struggles. Duke and the OL have to be maulers, and if any of DJ or SM get injured (God forbid, knock on wood) we done especially if DJ goes down we have no RB depth when it comes to Miami standards.

You didn't see the accuracy or touch in the spring game? CBs in the hip pockets of WRs had no chance because of ball placement. He doesn't get picked off because he throws the ball too hard or has bad placement. He gets picked off because of bad decisions or pressure. Just like any other QB. All these BS definitive statements about what has to happen this season before a game is played.

Its practice man everyone is good at practice. Is a coach going to say yea he sucks? Our D isnt al that either from what we seen in actual games not practice. Against good teams hes been not good thats a fact

I hope ur right but im tired of the hype I want to see it, august is always good news.

I'm not worried about accuracy as much as decision making. When teams could control our front last year and make Morris throw in predictable down/distance versus 6-7 guys, he struggled. I do strongly believe that Fisch made him about as good as he can be and we don't yet know about the Fisch-Coley transition. Morris has to show that he can progress through reads and execute against coverage and not just run fronts and pressure. He's a good quarterback but we're probably going to need him to be great unless you really think our defense has turned it around entirely. I have a hard time with that notion.

Very good points.

What makes you think Fish made him as good as he can be? That was his first year starting. It's natural for guys to improve as they play more football.

Name one player who improved as they played more football.

I think most of Morris's problems or errors are on Morris. Sure his WR/TE are not his best friends (show me the British TE) but if he would just throw the change up more often he would really move the chains more. IMO that is more of a mental thing that can be fixed on his own with more reps. I am sure the coaches tell him to ease it in sometimes as well but I think Morris watched the film and fully realizes this now. I believe he will throw more change ups this year.

The easiest way Morris can help himself and the team out is by throwing check downs. The guy refused to check down last year.

You can't be serious with this question... How about a guy like Leonard Hankerson, Tommy Streeter, or pretty much any player in the NFL. They weren't that good as college players.

Jedd Fisch was a very good QB coach. Don't know how good Coley is, but expectations for SM should be tempered until after the UF game. We should have an idea of what kind of QB he will be after that game.

Not for nothin' but Coley produced two first round draft picks as a QB coach/pseudo OC, and Jacory is a 3rd stringer in Canada.

Just playing Devil's advocate.

But did EJ Manual was a top QB prospect that had an otherwise unremarkable College career that doesn't really match his high draft pick.
Could it be that he underachieved in college thanks to Coley's tutelage?
