Golden says QB has to be more accurate.....

Golden feels like we're getting close and I think he's tightening the screws on everybody. Even in spots where asking for more is a bit unrealistic, he wants more.

It's the middle of camp. No one on the coaching staff is pleased with ANYTHING. Just the way it works.

Jedd Fisch was a very good QB coach. Don't know how good Coley is, but expectations for SM should be tempered until after the UF game. We should have an idea of what kind of QB he will be after that game.

Coley made EJ Manuel a 1st rounder.

This. Golden may have realized he praised Morris too much coming into camp also.

Morris finished the year strong and we need him to pick up there. Before the strong finish, he was inconsistent. I also recall alot of opposing defenders dropping what should've been picks that he threw. That was something that worried me all of last season before he finished without throwing many of those.

I mean, if Golden came out and said "I think we're all good" two weeks in to camp we would all want him fired. There is always room to improve and good coaches are by definition perfectionists. The tackling will never be good enough. Until the completion % is 100%, it won't be good enough. We are all just chomping at the bit for the season to start and any thing that gets said / any clip we see gets read into more and more with each day.

It does seem like Morris has been throwing quite a few INT's based on the Camp Report videos.

I would love to think that's because the defense is greatly improved.

I hope your right, but Golden said accuracy and that makes me think the same as last year.

??? Stephen Morris was a accurate QB last year for the most part though so i'm confused at what ur talking about.... his issue as a 1st time starter was consistency and touch on certain shorter route patterns.

If you watch the practice highlights in the 11 on 11s you can see that the defense has stepped their game up.... the d-line is always swatting at the ball if they cant get to the QB and the secondary is better then it was last year.... those do play a role in having lower then a 75% accuracy rating.

At the very least he was around Ponder and Manuel both first round picks. Not sure what he PERSONALLY did with them.

Lol J. Coley was the QB coach at FSU..... he developed both QBs.

Very good.

I think he will be alright...but also he really gets NO real pressure with wearing Red...should we be concerned a little, is it worth saying we go 7-5 NO...I think someone posted the D kinda knows the routes and plays, when we start running the ball, SM life will get easier...

Did any of you actually read the quotes? It sounds to me like he is talking about drops. You don't typically say things like:

"...With the experience that we have, with the protection we're getting and the type of quarterback we have leading us, there's no excuse for that."

to convey that the QB needs to be more accurate.

Some of you guys just read way too much into things. You're making judgments based on a handful of plays picked from practice (insert Allen Iverson quote here) and a comment about the qbs in general. Unless, it's stated elsewhere, Golden didn't single out Morris, he said quarterbacks. This is still fall camp, so Williams, Crow, Olsen, etc are getting plenty of reps. While, I'm sure he still has plenty of room to improve, there's been several plays in those highlights, and as someone else pointed out, in the spring game, that couldn't have been placed any better.

From Morris' comments, it sounds like he's been going for bigger plays, instead of checking down, so he's missing more and probably getting picked on throws he shouldn't be making. He needs to start doing that more consistently. The big plays will come.

This. Board over analyses every small quote by the coaching staff. Coaches challenge players all the time, just the way it is.

I think that people are making something out of nothing here. Part of it being that some have gotten so drunk off the kool aid that their expectations of Morris are unrealistic.

Now in terms of coley and the QBs at FSU. One of the main reasons he left FSU is because Jimbo is a total control freak about everything and would constantly over ride coley on everything. Coley is a beast recruiter and I have hopes that he will be a good OC here but everything regarding FSUs QBs both positive and negative is cause of Jimbo.

My gripe with Morris has always been his lack of anticipation and accuracy when it comes to the intermediate passes he'll have to make. Last year he was terribly inconsistent on throws that shouldnt have been too difficult to make. He's still a top collegiate QB though without a doubt.

Practice is not the game. I have no concern about the interceptions so far. Morris is going to try throws in practice that he would either pull down and run with or throw out of bounds, neither of which you would see in camp because there are no actual ramifications for trying to fit it in and give the receiver (and defense) a chance to make a play. No one gets better when the ball isn't in play. SM has proven he can make smart decisions, so I don't worry about bad habits coming from riskier behavior in practice.

Accuracy is a different story, but I haven't seen much to tell me his sub 60% completion rate won't be up and that he can now make the bubble screen throw consistently. Not worried.

MD in psychology, nothing to see here

Golden gon Golden, just a little push before the next scrimmage. Reports coming out of that one will be completely different.

LETS GO CANES!!!

Morris acknowledged that as one of the main problems that he had to correct in the off-season..... I think he has already shown that he improved in that area during the spring game. I dont think we will see him throwing the ball at our receivers feet on short routes and screen passes anymore.
