Golden knows

The TALENT we really have, is younger guys who arent all they way there yet. Guys like McCord, AQM, Coley, Figueroa, Tracy Howard,Herb Waters, Duke, Artie Burns, Jenkins, I mean THINK about how many YOUNG players are getting MAJOR reps on this team? What does that tell you? Tells you we STILL have HUGE holes and lack of talent among our upper classmen. Shannon's last class, and Al's first, which you cant blame him too much for as he didnt have much to work with, are what is still hurting this team. Yes we have guys like DP, and Hurns who are balling, but are any of those guys SUPERSTARS? Our BEST upperclassmen, are good to very good players, but not very elite.

This right here. Should be stated any time someone wants to question the talent Golden is bringing in. Our best players are primarily true sophs and that means the juniors and seniors are limited talent wise. Those juniors were part of Golden's first class w/the just 2 months to spare. The seniors were part of RS's 2010 class which is a god**** dumpster fire. This is gonna take time to completely fix and it's been that way since Golden arrived.

+100

unfortunately, gionni paul, eddie johnson, kevin grooms, louis jean, and gabe terry are all ***** ups.

This loss was about our offense not taking advantage of the opportunities they had. Not stopping them on 3rd down hurt. But this was going to be a high scoring game where our offense had to carry the defense. Basically we had to be aTm for a day, where we had to score a whole bunch of points while our defense got run up and down the field just like aTM's defense does week in and week out. Our defense did their part in the first half but you can't expect them to stop an offense as good as FSUs for most of the game let alone the whole game.

You have to put up big numbers on offense to win against FSU. Our defense at this stage is not capable of stopping a high powered offense. Thus most of the blame IMO goes on the offense and specifically Stephen Morris. Make the throws you're supposed to and we have a different game. Keep ****ting the bed and forcing the defense back on the field and you get yesterday's result. We have the talent on offense to score big. Our QB just can't get it done.

I like the pitch, but we didn't lose last night because of depth. Good PR angle, though.

Agree with this, we got out coached.
Last week we were chipping in for a plane/banner thanking our coach this week we have posts like these. Some of you guys are fffnnn brutal.

To be clear, I think we lost the game for the reasons Franchise outlined above: our starters at key positions were not better than some of their starters at key positions. I don't think it had very much to do with depth.

we lost bc Winston and CO can sustain drives and we cannot. we scored 0 points off normal drives (off kickoffs). both tds came off picks.

Who's been tellin you stupid ******'s for a couple years this was a 5 year rebuild after the Shannon/NCAA disaster?

Now quit bellyaching and watch Al continue to dig us out of this mess for the next two years.

This hits the nail on the head for me. I get that Canes Fans have high expectations and a lofty history but you guys have to take a breath. From my vantage point;
-Canes needed to dig out of whatever damage Shannon's tenure left behind
-Two and half years ago i was packing up my kid in California to drop him off at the U and the scroll on ESPN said something about strippers and parties. "No worries I said...that's no big deal" (boy, was i wrong)
-We get to campus that week and DEATH PENALTY is the headline on every network
-Meanwhile Al Golden, who took the job, had to be saying WTF but it sure looks like he hasnt wavered instead he was, apparently, pounding the recruiting trail and doing prety good against long odds. Not to mention he snags Cristobal (then Golden got screwed) and Coley who are known as skilled South Florida recruiters.
-All the while it seems Donna Shalala played it cool and worked with the NCAA when it was our advanatge to do so (just ask any USC alumni) then she pounced and made Emmert blink. Just ask Joe Nocera (google his articles)
-They passed on the ACC Championship game because it was the right play
-In the meantime studs like Tracy Howard, Duke Johnson and Stacey Coley stood firm and showed what courage looked like by committing when they had to be hearing all sorts of crap
-The team shows up and takes on Florida when Florida had a ranking and before the entire UF team all got hurt; they won the big game when it was called a big game (I flew out for that one)
-They run the table and are 7-0, albeit with some cupcake games and playing down to their competition, but they were undefeated and had the highest ranking since when....
-Oh yeah, they lose their primary wide receiver. Their QB is clearly hurt and limping despite what the pr machine says (and who can blame them you want opposing coaches planning for it?)
-They go on the road vs a clearly peaking team vs what seems like a real deal QB phenom 20+ point underdogs and lose (loose if you went to FSU) our star RB. Oh yeah, just the week prior they get word on the NCAA which was clearly a distraction.
-They are still 7-1 and have a strong shot at the Coastal and another shot at FSU ("thats why they play the game") and anything can happen...Thank you Clinton Portis

All that crap and you want to lay it out that the U is getting "out coached". FSU was bigger, better, faster on THAT night. but, we will see it again on another night. And the U is young, free of the the threat of NCAA sanctions and they are coming strong in the next few years

Oh yeah, that kid i dropped off at the U 2 1/2 years ago. he drove up in an RV and was at Gameday in Tallahassee (he got into FSU but chose the U). That is his sign behind Desmond Howard that says "Duke 4 Heisman". That's also him in the 5 second shot after the piece ESPN did on Duke. He is surrounded by FSU fans but he is screaming in the camera for Duke and his school.

So am I

^^will rep again strong post broths...

Enjoy the ride gents remember the shizz storm before the glory years came back in the early 2000s keep the course

You mean like slow playing Bernard and Freeman?
Putting eggs in the basket of Bryce Brown?
Having Lamar leave as a rs so?

Freeman...eggs..Collins..Lamar was expected to leave. There haven been plenty of stud rb's that have left south fla

Name the ones from the pAst two classes.

Collins...we already know. Who else would you classify as a "stud" that left? Darius
tice? Greg Bryant?

Closest I can figure, outside of Collins, is Tarean Folston, who is far from a stud. THIS class is the one with all the stud SoFla running backs, and right now we have 2 of the 4 committed. Anything before 2012 you can put on Randy. Gio, Freeman, Wilder, etc.
You can add Woodley to that list...a big back that we need right now. Not every player is going to be a stud...depth is what's hurting us.

We've got depth. How much better is Woodley than Dallas or Gus? We are not lacking bodies at RB. I think we're lacking great RBs (don't really know about Gus yet because he hasn't been given enough run).
if someone isn't playing...you don't have depth

Outside of Duke Johnson and Tracy Howard, there is no one on this team who is clearly among the best at his position in the country.

We lost the game because they have more talent than we do. Anyone that thinks otherwise is being delusional.

Yes, but the coaching staff as a whole is very suspect. They struggle often.

you can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t. we currently have chicken sh*t.

I know you guys think Al is the end all, and he has done a fine job managing the team during the investigation, however, game day coaching is still very suspect. I know he had success at Temple, but Temple is a long way in the rear view mirror.

So the fan base has to always toe the company line and never question his or his staffs coaching? Face it, he hasn't been overly impressive thus far with the game day stuff. Sure, crown him champion of team management through the investigation, he earned it, but the coaching is still suspect, by and him and his staff.

Golden and staff get out coached quite often. Fans mask it with other excuses, but it happens frequently.

Lol at being outcoached 41-14

Maybe you haven't beeen watching much this year, or the last couple of years. Maybe you can also point to the Sav St game as well as a great indicator. I get it, you guys can't get past his super star status because of how he managed some things the last couple of years, but he still needs to prove he and his staff can coach. He has been in a bunch of dog fights with inferior teams. Teams that he should be beating comfortably with regularity.
