Golden at the heart of recruiting success in South FL

Great quotes from the commits. I love that Golden and Co. are God fearing, family oriented, and honest with these kids and their families. Everyone should read this.

Golden plays every card in the deck. I love it. He is building a recruiting machine. Love his mix of old Canes and new tech. Will never be able to match SEC $$$$ for kids and street agents for the 5*, but he sill still get some. His eye for talent with upside will take care of the rest. On field coaching for some of staff might need improvement, but Jimmy didn't know how to win a bowl game when he got here--took until year four.

Can anyone explain why Barry Jackson's article got picked up by the Sacramento Bee? Good article, hope other regional papers will publish it randomly as well.

What's up with Sony taking a shot at the facilities which are brand new and the fan base? Another local kid dissing the home town team .

And Michel cited this: "What concerned me was Miami's facilities," Michel said, adding Georgia's are nicer. "They should be more up to par. And the fan base is not too big, not what I would expect."
phony being phony...

Good article.

Once we start winning this season and the NCAA gets off our jocks coaches won't know what to do with Golden and co. on the recruiting trail.

THAT is indeed puzzling. He suddenly decides to go to Georgia because it wins The Attendance Cup or The Facilities Cup ? For all of its boosters, facilities, and its so called die-hard fans .....how many NC's have they raised in the last 30 years ?
For those of you too young to remember ....in Detroit there was this little boxing-gym located at 5555 McGraw Street . No air-conditioning, 1950's style equipment,no fancy lighting, the training rings looked ratty and the place was almost window-less. It was in a basement ! Name ? Kronk Gym. Guess which boxing- gym produced the most champions ?

Facilities DO NOT WIN YOU CHAMPIONSHIPS ! The right coach wins you championships ! If you're lucky (see Auburn University) , you catch lightning in a bottle with a so-so coach, a couple of off-the-charts players and some lucky breaks.
Oregon's national Championships are on par with VT's or Texas A&M or Ole MISS' .

Chad Thomas' quote was the best of all ...at Miami you do not have to sit in a class with 99 other students. If you've ever had to sit in an auditorium type class ..then I don't have to elaborate.

I believe Golden is a God send for the university!!

His character is definitely rubbing off on the players & you can see the change in the culture at Miami

What's really funny is this kid has been going to UM since he was in diapers. He knows everything about UM, the good and the bad. He's chosen to focus on the bad in order to justify his decision to attend Georgia. He may be a great kid, but I question his character!

Al is really talented at the whole marketing/PR/personal relations/recruiting aspect of things as well as organization/CEO stuff a d strength/conditioning. The last piece is just game day coaching, but he definitely has serious talent in areas that are extremely important in today's game.

I was encouraged when he turned down a big name job like Wisconsin but I'm not sure how long he will keep turning things down if he can get to 10 wins here. He will likely be offered 3m elsewhere and I know we don't pay our coaches top dollar. His family does like it here but ultimately no rational person is going to turn down 3 for 2.

Chad Thomas = smart kid!

We can't pay him 3M till he wins some games. He is 13-11. I love how he has uprooted the weak culture, dealt with the NCAA, and got some talent in. But until we actually win, and it isn't just us looking like we will win, I think his Contract through 2020 or whatever is just fine.

Love me some Al. Winning solves everything. Fixes recruiting, helps enormously with attendance.

I'm shocked Michel, Lane and Cook don't want to play for the hometown team with an elite coach like Golden and all the guys they've played football with throughout optimist and high school. Like most, I think once we start winning again, guys like them won't leave home. But re: Sony's comments, I would just caution that reporters can take comments out of context. He's been quiet and respectful until now, so deserves the benefit of the doubt. And I have heard a lot of negative recruiting about Miami from other programs, but Richt's staff doesn't seem to do that.

Yeah but what does it tell you when a 13-11 coach is offered a job like Wisconsin? It tells me that when he is actually winning it will be **** near impossible to keep him and that saddens me.

I love this quote: "Central and ex- Northwestern coach Roland Smith said this Miami staff is "real good at building relationships. Coach Golden asked me to coach at his summer camps when I wasn't coaching. I so appreciate that." ... Now that's a way to rebuild trust.
