Golden and Coach D'O need to realize the team we have.

How about the fact that our offense did **** against ND and KSU? Our offense MUST be productive for us to win.

Would have been awesome for the defense to hold ND to 2 points and secure that win.

The fact is that they didn't. They gave up 40+ points!!!

THis defensive staff is way over their heads.... can't think themselves out of a wet paper bag.

While I agree with your premise, it's very short sighted and only focused on the short term.
Fans like us like to think short term. Coaches and program builders like to think long term.
And Golden has time. He doesn't need to win now at the expense of not implementing his system for the long term.
And this program will be better for it 2-3 years from now. Well at least that is the hope.

Playing aggressive is not changing their philosophy. The issue is why are we trying to play SEC football with a Conference USA defense? How many more 500 plus yard games are we going to have to give up before we realize that a ball control /smash mouth defense is not working with this group.

Holy ****. I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with City. Just try something different. What you are doing will not work with this unit. Just sell out and send the house every now and then. We might ***** around and actually sack a QB or create a turnover. Or we might give up a 80 yard touchdown pass. Who gives a ****? We were gonna give up 80 yards rushing and a TD on 10 plays anyway just sitting back and doing nothing.

What have we got to lose? 2 spots in the defensive rankings so we can be dead last? Oh well.

/it is a sad day for me when I agree with City

I'd rather have the opponent score quickly so then our offense can get back the ball. As the OP stated, ND and KState both did the opposite. It's not rocket science.

Then when we score, kick the ball on-sides. Hope to hold for a FG or maybe get it back.

We were still in the game at halftime. However;

Blitzing in second half was not an issue because ND did not throw a single pass.

Our first 2 possessions in the 2nd half were 3 and out. By the time we had our 3rd possession the game was over, 34-3. We could not have done worse in the second half, even if we played with 10 defenders and punted on first down.

Then sell out to stop the run and make them throw it. I don't care if you have to stack 9 in the box. What we were doing was not getting it done. The definition of insanity is constantly repeating the same steps and expecting a different outcome. Or some **** like that.

I'd say D-No is pretty **** crazy by those standards.

ND ran the same 3 plays the entire second half and we could not do anything about it. Our DL was pushed 5 yards off the LOS every play, except the one time we stopped them on third down deep in our territory. On that play Darius Smith was pushed at least 12 yards back and in his frustration threw a (feeble) punch at the ND player after the play, giving them the first down (THE ONLY TIME WE STOPPED THEM ON 3RD DOWN THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF).

For all of the talk of a foundation being installed, I can't seem to be able to point to a single foundational element on D. If soft coverage is in foundation of this d, some one please explain why that is good. If gap control is in the foundation, some one.explain why that is preferable considering the caliber of athlete we can get. Why is this foundation being chosen over another style? It's solely because it is what they have always run.. well guess what? I'm not sold on it being the best fit for what we have in south Florida talent wise

When you have a front 4 that can't get pressure and a group of guys that don't know how to blitz, you're kinda ****ed.

We blitzed a lot against Notre Dame and it didn't accomplish a **** thing.

This. But it doesn't fit in w/ the argument that donofrio is clueless. The bottom line is that until we get some experienced talent on the D line, we are going to continue struggling on d.

We blitzed ND and gave up major yards.

That tends to happen when you line the CB's up 20 yards off the WR allowing the QB to easily beat the blitz with a dump off to receivers in the flats with 10+ yards of open field and a guaranteed first down. The scheme is horrendous.

there's one difference, and that's the O. if our offense had scored early and on pace with ND, our D would have stepped up at some point, perhaps gotten a stop or two. we win or lose based on the offense.

We blitzed ND and gave up major yards.

Those are not the blitz packages we needed. We need fire blitz and Zone blitz packages.

City, in another long diatribe, you stated that we should simplify the defense. Now you are asking for fire zone blitz packages? You do realize that you just asked to play press coverage (man) while using zone blitz packages?

First, we don't blitz enough

Then when we blitz, it is the wrong blitz packages.

And by the way, we have used plenty of zone blitzes this year.

I love how people say "but we blitzed vs ND and it didnt work"

We ran 5 or 6 blitzes and they were either from the safety or CB, not at all what we needed at the time to counter what they were doing, which was running it down our throats. We needed to load the box and FORCE them to pass the ball and beat us with there freshman QB

that sounds great in theory.... but then everyone would be here complaining about why are we playing man when we don't have dominant corners.. and no one can cover etc.etc.etc..etc.. people are going to complain no matter what.

Weve given up 500+ in almost every game.....I dont think anyone is gonna say it could be worse, were ranked 118 out of 120

So we have ****** CBs and DL....so instead of blitzing them were gonna jus let our DL who gets no pressure no help and our ****** CBs have to cover them even longer because of lack of pressure???

SEEMS LEGIT.

Everyone wants us to change scheme as a stopgap measure. That's all it is. We are rebuilding. Stopgap measures don't help for the future. These young kids need to learn how to perform as a unit, as one. Golden and D aren't going to compromise that for stopgap defense.

This is why teams lose games and coaches get fired. It is called being stubborn. Miami needs to find ways to bring pressure besides the front four. Losing games because one is stubborn is silly.

Show me a team that is in a similar situation as us that has a fanbase with expectations like ours.

Expectations are what keep us from falling into deeper mediocrity. Without expectations we will become the next Minnesota or Pitt Panthers. In the 40s-70s those Programs thought they'd never stop winning championships either.

I'm not saying fire the DC. I'm just saying that there needs to be some changes in his philosophy. Looks at the number of Punts we've forced in each game against FBS opponents. ND,KSU: 1, NCS: 4, BC:3, GT: 5. With a bend but don't break mentality we are not giving our offense a chance to get it's rhythm. You don't think Fisch wanted to run the ball more than 18 times? You don't think he wanted to setup our screen game or take more shots down field? Of course he did but he couldn't because with limited possessions and a mounting deficit he barely got the scratch the surface of his game plan.

the defense kept um in the game in the first half. they gave up 13 points.

losing to nd is more on the offense shooting itself in the foot in the first half.
