I hear you but at some point the young guys gotta play at that spot some too or we'll have heavy transfer portal attrition

Yeah count me in the crowd that says bringing in 2 starter caliber DTs isn’t a good look. We need to develop the guys we have. Maybe bring in one. But 2? Meh. The DT room needs to step up. There are two 5* kids in that room. Making a pretty penny in NIL I will presume.

We need help in other positions first. MAJOR help.

My thing with Samson is he's allegedly getting a great NIL package and he's been on the bench two seasons. That's like buying a 90k truck that isn't dependable enough to drive on the road.

Are we sure Samson has played more snaps than Luis Cristobal?
 
Yeah put my in grpup that thinks we need to bring in 3-4 portal DL.

We dont have enough size and experience to roll into a tough schedule next season with so much youth.

DE-Bain/Cole M.
DT-Moten/Horton
DT-Scott/Jones
DE-Bryant/Lightfoot/Pickett

Like i like talent level, and starting 4, but imagine if
You get 2-3 injuries that is a slim unit. Absolutely need 3-4 veteran types up front.

Id take 2 DE and 2 DT personally.

Whose the second 5 star? If that's Blount seems like every time I see him he has more of a Bain frame. Unless he gains quite a bit of weight this off-season. I think Moten is solid and Scott should take another step. Horton showed potential but he seems like he also can't stay healthy.

Yes there are weaker positions on the team but to be a quality championship contender you need to rotate defensive tackles and so you need more than 2-3 good defensive tackles on your roster. You don’t bring in 2 starting caliber dt and one guy gets hurt or they don’t develop as you’d hope…you’re cooked.

I saw their frames up close at the Cal game (pause). They may be similar in weight at the moment but they do not have similar frames. Blount has the frame to carry 300 pounds well, Bain doesn’t. I would agree that Blount may not be ready to be a full time defensive tackle next year but wouldn’t shock me if he proves me wrong. I would take 1 elite DT in the portal and let the young guys battle for the other starting spot.

Blount will figure into the rotation somehow next year. But I agree with taking 1 DT and 1DE next year, even if its rotation guys

That's good news if he does have the potential to get to that weight. I just can't imagine if the scenario comes around next year where you can have a Barrow and Harmon on the team and say nah I'm good. I'm also not on the coaching staff though it's their job to know and track people's developments. Should get our answer either way pretty soon.

This. I say take one but no "Marley Cook" types. If your going to take one..needs to be on the level of Barrow Jr. Or just work with what you have. Most high level DTs start showing promise in their 2nd year. We can assume that at least 1 of Scott, Blount or Jones are in the 2 deep next year. Hopefully 2 of them.

I just think we have more pressing needs including getting a top level portal QB and getting some immediate help in the secondary. We need to use the NIL money wisely.

Exactly. At this point, while I like the potential of Horton and Moten, let's face it, those guys are at best rotational dudes. Blount is a DE. Scott and Jones have promise but still are VERY green. We also lose Campbell. While he's no longer in the rotation (which is odd), he is a depth piece.

IMO, we need 1-2 starter type DTs in the portal as well a starter type DE. Will be interesting to see what they do with Mesidor if he stays. Wouldn't mind seeing him move back to DE as he has been up and down at DT.

At DE, if Bain and Mesidor are there, we have Booker, Cole, Lightfoot, Blount, and Rudolph all vying to be in the rotation. Blount will be there but the others are a big question mark since they need weightroom work. Would feel more comfortable if we add 1 starter type in the portal.

100%. It’s the proof of concept, Mario is proving this year that you can transfer to Miami and not only win on the field but help your draft stock. Most importantly we should be at the point where we no longer are required to pay a ‘suck tax’.
