I would choose to play for an Ivy than go to the NFL any day of the week.
I am all about going to an elite school if given the opportunity but this makes no sense to me. very few people including Ivy league grads earn the kind of money NFL players earn. if you are a smart kid with nfl potential there are elite schools that play football at a high level you can attend. earn big bucks in the NFL and then go do what you want.

Looks like there are three private equity CEOs in nyc that make 9 figures. The average finance guy in 10 years can make VP and make 300-500k. Which is an awesome salary, but still far less than an NFL player.

seriously. we are going to bring up a handful of huge earners vs the nfl? considering that it is very hard to make it to the NFL but if the kid has the ability to get there he should definitely do it. look at kaaya. he made close to a million dollars in his short career and didn't even take a hit in an actual game.

Your numbers are completely wrong. You are making Principal within 5 years and if you are a high paying firm, you are making A LOT more than 500k. If you make partner at a high paying firm, again you are making 9 figures. These are CEOs for publicly traded companies.

Of course not every Ivy kid is going to be making that kind of money. Many will become teachers or do other similar style jobs that are not high earning. However, if you are a motivated Ivy Graduate, you can make WAY more going the non NFL route and not have to worry about head trauma. I just used PE as an example take a look at hedgefund guys. They are also making significantly more than NFL players.

Here is the top hedgefund guys vs top athletes.

Only a tiny fraction of college grads- including from elite schools- make in a year what a 53-man roster active player does.

That said, NFL careers are mostly fleeting, and the right education/career path can give you longevity (and therefore long-term earning power) that the League cannot.

These financiers and CEOs cited are extreme outliers and no one should expect to end up as fortunate as they are.

apples to apples ivy league vs guaranteed NFL, NFL wins. go to stanford, notre dame, duke or michigan , then to the NFL and cash some fat checks for a few years and then do whatever you want including run a hedge fund if you are one of the few capable of doing that.

That is not 100% true. If you graduate with good grades from an elite school and have appropriate internships. You can get your foot in the door at any of these big money companies. Then it all comes down to putting in the work. You put in the work, you will be making more than the NFL player. You also won't have to worry about getting injured and losing your career or potential brain damage.

Stanford is a great example, since it is right up there with the best Ivy League schools. However, that is my point. If you are graduating from Stanford, and want to make a lot of money. You would be foolish to waste your first few years going to the NFL. You would be better off getting your foot in the door, then playing in the NFL.

However, if you are doing it for the love of the game, that is a different story.

If you go 2 miles down and to the right, you'll find me on the list.

The top hedge fund guys is a very tiny club. You’re literally talking about maybe dozens of guys. That is a very small number
