I told my Colts buddy they wasted a #5 pick on a combine champion. Unfortunately, other than some psych tests that don't reveal much, the combine doesn't point out if the candidate has a brain to process at the required nfl qb speeds. In this football era, how had you complete only 10 out of 32? And then you got tired and brought yourself out of the game. Guy is a joke.

Yes, the “best case scenario” would seem nice for an OC. But the worst case scenario could derail his career.

And there is zero history at UF of Slingblade Billy’s staff moving onward and upward. Except maybe the DB coach that Slingblade fired.

For the love of God, can we just speak with honesty here, instead of feeling compelled to talk bad about Miami to appear "fair and balanced"?

Rhett Lashlee joined Miami in January 2020. Manny was NOT "on a very hot seat", he had only coached for one year (6-6 regular season and a bowl loss to push us to 6-7), and while Manny's 2019 record was only 6-7, this followed Richt's 7-6 season. No hot seat AT ALL.

As for a comparison to Florida, if Slingblade Billy posts a losing season in 2025, the entire coaching staff will certainly be fired. Thus, anyone that Slingblade hires will have ONE year to turn things around. Rhett had two.

And if you want complete honesty, nobody thought we needed to get some huge big name at OC in order to save jobs or recruits. Nobody had a lot of faith in Manny (former DC) to make a great OC hire, yet he did pretty well (given the circumstances).

But Slingblade Billy is the current OC who does not want to give up the reins. He is going to need to hire a strong OC just to convince the team that he's not pulling the strings behind the scenes. And I don't think a powerful and effective OC will want to go into a one-year situation where his boss was effectively FORCED to turn over the playcalling duties. This is NOT a recipe for success.

More importantly, it is nothing like Manny and Rhett.

You can sit at a cafe on South Beach and hear 10 different languages being spoken. But for me at least, this is part of what makes Miami such a special place.

Miami is a perfect mix of Caribbean, Hispanic, and southern black American culture that have all blended together to give the city its own unique culture.

I want Georgia and Texas to pound the gators. But, I also want them to squeeze by Hotty Toddy and play to a zero to zero tie against Memphis Mike. I know, I know, but both can’t lose. Under that future, recruits know that the gators are going nowhere and Lane can’t go to UF.

If they get Lane, it’s obviously an upgrade but we’ll be ok
