Agree. If they did this right, if a player has no stats then they should get an automatic 1-2 star ranking for transfers. The portal rankings are just the dumbest thing these recruiting sites do. There's no standard even within one site let alone across sites. You have players that haven't played a down of college football being ranked better than players with proven production. For example Julian Sayin is ranked the #1 QB portal transfer. He's a rsh freshman who hasn't played a down of college football. How do you even begin to compare one QB with 3 years of proven college production against a guy that hasn't played a down?
Florida's #5 portal ranking is based on multiple players who either haven't played in college football or have played very little. Zandamela and Grimsley were nice pickups, but both are true freshman who won't or should NOT play in 2024. McClain played very little at Colorado and has a lot to prove. LB Howard had 18 tackles in 5 games as a true freshman at South Carolina.
My issue with the portal rankings is that there is no possible methodology to compare proven experienced talent against unproven inexperienced talent. Also, the rankings should not be viewed with the high school recruiting classes. Portal transfers are for immediate impact, while high school classes need 1-2 years for development. Experience and immediate impact should be the biggest factors for a port rankings, not the projection of freshmen 1-2 years later.
All this to say Florida's #5 transfer class is BS. It's a feel good for them to beat their chests, but won't help them this year as much as a #5 ranking should. Every Miami portal transfer has proven experience. There are no transfer reaches on our roster.
Another offseason of Florida fans winning like their top 3 recruiting class in July, 2023. They're out telling lies that will result in tears come fall starting August 31st.
