Gabe Terry arrested...

beyond anything Gabe Terry did, what's really amazing to me is the amount of judgemental and sanctimonious posters on this board. Wow....I'm glad none of you have ever made a mistake.

Plural. People make mistakes but this kid seems to have made a few.

People also confuse something, Gabe Terry was given a full athletic scholarship. He has to play by a different set of rules, if he chooses to break them then he accepts the consequence that goes with them. His mistakes may cost more than the average person. When you are just a student enrolled in Miami (not on any scholarship) you may have a different set of rules to play by.

he is right though, just yesterday I got the albacore tuna melt from bunk sandwiches, instead of the pork belly cubano. what made me think anything but the cubano was an acceptable choice, is beyond me. fortunately, my mistake doesn't carry a possibility for a felony.

Aren't YOU being judgmental?

Try not to use words without knowing what they mean. While you look up sanctimonious also see rationalize. Unless you are too sanctimonious to do that? ;-)

The problem isnt that he made a mistake, its that he has a history of making mistakes. Hopefully, he gets re-instated, but he needs to understand he is already on a short leash.

Here's the thing, Gabe Terry isn't like one of us. Most of us were normal students who had to work through college or take out loans to attend (or had rich parents).

Gabe Terry gets to go to school for free. Not because he's smart, but because he's athletic. He was given a great opportunity, he got to be a Miami Hurricane...one of the most recognizable people on campus. So yeah, I would say he's held to a higher standard than others, and rightfully so. He knew the rules, he messed up, it's his fault.

Does anyone know the law in Florida and if it was felony possession? Cuz I live in Colorado, and old boy wouldn't have even been written up here. IDK if y'all have different levels of possession, but here you're allowed to hold an OZ before it's a felony, and most cops won't bust your chops unless you're a seller. :cigar:

Nobody cares about lame-*** Colorado, you ****ing renegger.

The irony should of this quote coming from you should be smacking you across the face right about now. King crybaby re-negger calling out someone else for doing it. Hypocrital asshat.

Understood and agree, but that wasn't my point. I guess I just remember what an idiot I was at that age (I am sure some will make the easy joke) and feel some sympathy for the kid. He messed up no doubt, but there are degrees....pot/drunk for me deosn't equal some of the vitroil being thrown at the "kid". Also, I have no detail on his previous problems with suspensions, so not sure if that's along the same lines, or academics, or something else.

People bring their own perspective to the conversation, and of course with the benefit of life experience we can appreciate the opportunity afforded Gabe, I personally don't remember having that thoughtful perspective at 19. Add in his background and it gets even more complicated. Either way, I trust the staff has the information to make the right call here.

JMHO

^^agree. kid didnt assault someone or steal some ****.

smoking weed and drinking should not get you kicked off the team. at least not the 1st offense IMO

A felony is a BIG mistake, regardless what I or anyone else thinks of what he did. Everyone makes mistakes, but we don't all get charged with felonies for making them.

So you are calling it a "big" mistake because a lawmaker in Tallahasee decided 28 grams of pot equals a felony versus a misdemeanor? Are you assuming he knew this was the distinction? I had no idea about that law, nor do I think many of us know every "felony" on the books, and I am sure there many pretty absurd ones out there. This situation isn't black and white....

I haven't read the whole thread but wasn't this guy kind of in and out of trouble a bunch of times last season? If so, and you add this, why would you want him around? He's clearly unreliable and unlike Johnson (who should also be gone) he didn't even do anything worthwhile last season.

This situation with Terry has nothing to do with anyone's opinion on the legality or illegality of pot and everything to do with a guy who passed out in public and then got in a "fighting stance" when approached by law enforcement. Do you guys see where THAT is the real issue?

Add to that the fact that this guy has been in trouble the whole time he's been here and had a sketchy background prior to coming here, and you can be sure he's history. Sometimes, you take a gamble on a kid like this, and it pays off. He realizes he's been given a great opportunity and manages to keep his knucklehead urges in check. Most of the time, though, a clown like this will wind up breaking your heart, which is exactly what Terry has done.

Gabe Terry? History, my friends. A memory.

Not so fast. Golden has been raving about this kid since he signed. Most of us have been raving about him since last year.
Yeah he fuucked up big time but now it's up to him if he is going to earn his spot back on the team.
He can be an immature punk about it and tell Golden "up yours white boy, I'll smoke weed whenever I feel like it," and be gone, or
he can fall on his sword, beg forgiveness and prove himself by being clean, working his *** off on the field and in the classroom.
Golden seems to be a players' coach and seems to understand that these players don't all come from the most affluent backgrounds.

On the flip side Golden also seems to love the U and expects these players to represent the University like they were representing God.

I'm hoping Golden gives Terry a final chance to shape up with the caveat that one more ***** up and it's highway time.
