Future QB battle

The competition will be fierce and competitive for the QB position. I wish Brad the very best and thank you for 3 years of dedication to UM. With that being said I am ecstatic that he left because the kid just doesn't have the goods period. Don't care if he threw for 70,000 yards but his record is **** poor when we needed big wins. Did anyone happen to see the QB for USC last night, SAM DARNOLD? Now as a red shirt freshman he is WAY BETTER THE KAAYA will ever be. For those on the board that think this program will struggle w/o KAAYA I strongly disagree. There were many reasons why UM didn't get to the ACC championship the past two years but a big part was because of BRAD KAAYA with his many limitations. LET GO CANES!

I honestly don't know why people don't think he can't be the next in line, or are overlooking him. I want him over Perry. He had his year to learn, which is the norm for most QBs in todays game, and he seems like a guy who takes his job serious. He has 9 months to be ready to lead this team. PLENTY of time to get ready.

I've been wondering about this. Kid was hyped out of HS and most were pleased we got him, so why is he now crap? A dude who hasn't had a single college practice is now seen as far superior. I get that Perry is the kind of player Richt wants, but why are people on here down on Jack?

Bingo. Kid has done nothing to raise concern. As a matter of fact, I remember during the midseason struggle, Shaq's dad posted on here and said something that he was confident in Jack being the guy next year based on seeing him in practice or warmups or something like that. He noted his demeanor and fire I believe, as well as an improvement in mobility from Kaaya.

Does Allison offer any mobility? I don't recall from watching his HS highlight clips two years ago.

Yes a lot more than kaaya

Actually pretty mobile.

Any video?

I YouTube his senior highlight during the orange bowl game to show my buddies. I didn't watch the whole thing but the mobility was there from the jump.

Like Rosier could do any better...please hahahah

Because there is talk of accuracy issues and he is still raw. And i think because he is more of a pocket passer and kaaya wasnt mobile a lot of people are just lumping him in with kaaya.

If he has accuracy issues, can't that be coached? I'm asking here.

Second to that, I watched Perry's tape and I didn't see accuracy issues, but I also didn't see accuracy either. It was either a long throw where it's gonna be a catch or incomplete (low risk high reward) or runs. I didn't see much decision making needed or accurate throws needed from him. I was a by skeptical about that. Hard to just all of a sudden change to that style.

Did I say Rosier but I we don't know yet. If we don't have QB that can surpass Kayaa and play WAY better than him then this program is in big trouble.

I'm with you man. I hope he gets the job and I think he will - he's got lots of talent/potential. Probably another case of this board being enamored with the new/unknown. Lots here flaunted Allison as potentially usurping kaaya's job and those same posters pencil in Perry like he'll win the job easily.

I know I'm shaky on Allison because he didn't do anything in high school his senior year to deserve any hype

Total Passing Yards 1622
Passing TDs 18
Passing Yards/Game 180.2
Pass Completions 131
Pass Attempts 217
Interceptions 14

Those are his Junior stats, his senior stats are below. They don't impress either, but I'm wondering if he played in a run first offense or if he just isn't that good? I just don't know why every service had him rated highly with these stats.

Total Passing Yards 1450
Passing TDs 11
Pass Completions 125
Pass Attempts 201
Interceptions 5

Any HS QB with that TD to INT ratio is a major question mark. I don't care what kind of excuses UM fans make for him.

Bemoans fans for being "enamored with the new/unknown" then stumps for a complete unknown in Allison.

People need to stop confusing "running QB" with "QB that can run".

Perry isn't a running QB, he's just a modern QB that can take off when the pocket breaks down. Anyone watching college football right now should realize that it is absolutely vital that a QB can move their feet.

The best overall QBs in college right now are DeShaun Watson, Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold and they all can move.

Lamar Jackson isn't as developed as a passer but the threat of his legs opens up the passing game for Louisville.

Jake Browning can move and threw for 40+ TDs.

Looking back at the last 5 years, every successful college quarterback has been able to run when needed. Manziel, Luck, Winston, Mariota, etc.

We are probably 11-1 this season and playing Clemson for the ACC Title if Kaaya was able to run AT ALL.

You have to be an ELITE qb like Brady, Brees, Manning etc to be a statue back there and be successful. Too many situations where the pocket collapses in your face not to be. The reason those guys are successful is because they can make throws in tight coverage with precision and make them quickly.

Nobody knows how this is gonna play out yet. We will know more in the spring. That should be a Capt Jack vs Rosier battle. If Evan is still in the conversation at the end of spring then it'd be no surprise to see one of the true frosh starting game 1. For the record, Weldon ran for over 300 yards last year. Perry ran for less than a buck. Weldon is a wild card coming in as an EE. Whoever starts we will be better off than with Kaaya running the RPO.

Plus, Brady, Brees, Manning, Roethlisberger...they're not runners but they are mobile in the pocket. They are constantly shifting their base to set up easier throws and create windows. The bottom line for me is that in order to win at QB you have to be mobile, even if not fast. And as the college game progresses, being able to tuck and run is no longer going to just be a luxury.

Because the rule around here (seemingly) is that we always seem to heap praise on the guy that not here yet, and **** on the ones already on the roster for the most part.

Allison has been hyped on here and is inaccurate as fuq.........Perry to me is a fuqin beast I think he gets the job easily. Allison legacy comes from these forums because he can make every throw....who cares there's guys that can make every throw that never do a **** thing. Rumors in sfla is that he's hot garbage....give me the guy that just has that superior pocket awareness and never get rattled with good accuracy

Makes sense. How many picks do you think next year's QB throws before the bring back Kaaya threads start?

i think its cause he isn't very mobile is more mobile then kayaa but it looks like richt wants to run some read option as well as rpo's and for that he wants a mobile qb, plus Weldon and perry are the new kids, the new guys always smell better then the old ones , so to speak, they haven't had time to redshirt or to nto play or to not play up to standards some on this board have for them which means they have no faults so far.

Allison could very well win the qb battle and so could sheriffs even if he isn't getting much chance. but perry and Weldon are both much more dt while Allison is a pocket guy, that's why people expect perry to win plus pete says people in building expect that also. u ever know Allison could end up with job but so could rosier, perry or weldon

Not a f**ing shot in the world Allison wins the job.

It will be Perry or Weldon.

Richt is not going into next year with another statute at QB.

What happened to Sherriffs? I thought Richt said he had the best footwork during spring? I'm pretty sure he was labeled as accurate also. So why no mention?

Go Canes!

Biggest thing with Kaaya is that he trusts his ability to make something happen with his arm, or with his mind (over thinking sometimes and elects to hand it off to the RB). He probably lacks alot of trust in his feet, or doesn't have enough confidence to run when he doesn't absolutely have to. He rarely steps into the pocket and as a freshman he felt more comfortable throwing off his back foot. Since then, he makes alot less throws off his back foot, but he still struggles with climbing the pocket, and escaping the pocket when he needs to.

The highlights of Jack Allison on hudl, show that he isn't afraid to make tough throws, and throws a bullet 90% of the time. Harder for WR's to catch, and low sailing balls may be easier to pick off (which could explain why he has a bunch of picks). They also get tipped, and intercepted because the WR doesn't grab it fast enough, which could also describe a few of his interceptions...Putting a bit of touch on the ball can be taught, and working on his throwing motion to make him more comfortable throwing softer at times shouldn't be hard. Anyways, for the conversation at hand...On his highlight video, he climbs the pocket a few times, and he also escapes the pocket at times. More often in this simple highlight video than we've seen Kaaya do in a full year. He's probably just slightly faster than Kaaya, but he isn't afraid to make a move or drop a shoulder on his way down. When I watch his highlight video, it makes me think a lot of that Duke QB highlight video i saw another poster put up (Thomas Sirk).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZK9nQTaYuE

I think he has a shot at winning the job, don't think he will be as good as Kaaya passing the ball...but I could see him being better for the offense because he will actually pull the ball and run at times, which is what Richt wants so that he can run the RPO offense that he wanted to run with Kaaya. I think he may also be a bit more consistent. There is an article written on Allison which says that the only thing holding him back is his lack of confidence. He's deadly when he's hot, but hopeless when he makes a mistake (from what I read).
