FSU has five SoFla commits from the 2013 and 2014 classes: John Franklin, Michael Johnson, Joseph Yearby, JoJo Robinson, and CJ Worton. Now that I've had the chance to see all five of them in person, I feel much better about Miami protecting its borders.

Are they solid, coordinated football players? Sure. But these are not Miami-caliber recruits.

The one thing they have in common is that they are all unimpressive from a size-speed perspective. Several are well below-average in that department. When you see a guy like Michael Johnson stand next to Jamal Carter, or contrast Joseph Yearby with Dalvin Cook, it's simply a different league of size and athleticism. And aside from Yearby, none of these guys were particularly productive at the high school level.

There are still several big-time battles being waged. But as it stands now, FSU isn't invading anything.

I predict at least half of these guys wont even sign with FSU. Look at what they did to the Shelton kid and Dendrin Senat once they found out these kids couldn't play.

04, i agree. this is just their way of trying to get down here. offer some of these kids, take some commits, sell the bigger recruits on fsu taking over south florida, etc. aint gonna happen or fsu is gonna get stuck w/ half a roster of kids who aren't fsu quality.
then, they will burn the bridge when they turn these kids loose to find another school.

But is offering all of these kids part of plan to create more buzz in south Florida to allow them to go after the bigger targets?!?

Agree for the most part on all those guys except Yearby, think he is a really good player and I have alot of respect for what he has accomplished so far (he ran for 2k as a SOPH!) but with that said he also is playing in an south florida era where he might have least upside at his position with what else is out here. The difference and growth of his teammate Cook is glaring because they play side by side. I dont mind at all losing Yearby but think he is a good player, now if we lose Dalvin to freaking Clemson, grrrrrrrr...

They may have commits we clown right now, but they will always come into S FL and pull a kid like Xavier Rhodes.

Yea seen him a couple times, both games southridge offense seemed to lack flow but he is a good player, a notch below the more known guys but he should get some bcs offers if he gets his name out there. Yearby does play with a TON of talent, do you think they are comparable?

FSU will always get some kids from down here due to the sheer volume of talent and our inability to hoard all of the local players. Difference under Al and recent past regimes is you will see Al get the overwhelming majority of the guys Al wants. He will not be losing battles to FSU or any other poachers in the great majority of cases. FSU can try all the friend tricks they want, but Al wind wind up pulling the popcorn trick on Jambutt.

exactly. a bunch of elite teams will get 1 or 2 from the area. FSU, Bama, Florida moreso than others just because, as you said, sheer volume of talent. Miami still benefits the most from this by far.
