He's right about the man coverage. The myth on this board is we don't play it. Truth is, we don't play it very well, but it is called quite a bit. We also rarely get home when we blitz, which compounds our problems in man coverage.

we dont do anything well on defense. and that is an indictment on the coaching staff. it is plainly obvious that the whole philosophy and staff needs to be blown up

Our blitzes are late.
LB's are 5 yards away from los
We run man occasionally but have lbs on wr's a lot of times.

We are not running as much man as he's putting on.

Disguising is a joke, Presnap is obvious what we're running. It's even more obvious when we're blitzing.

Not hard to play offense when you know what the defense is running.

This, all of this. The part that kills me is our coverage by the LBs. One, it is painfully obvious that they are inept at in zone and in man coverage. Two, why continue to put them in this position to fail, time and time again? What I mean by that is, our LBs were mismatched in coverage on those crossing routes all the time against VT.

the 3rd and longs are all the evidence you need. we are probably the worst team in the history of NCAA in 3rd and 8 or 9+

**** him. HIS defense is cutting people loose. That's on him. 3 ******* years of this ****... and this moron can't teach HIS defense? **** him. It's ALL on him.

Oh... and **** him.

He's not wrong in a lot of what I hear from him and it's ridiculous to expect him to tip his hand even if his plan was to blitz every down next game. The more unfortunate part is that again and again you get the sense that the film room is all about chasing bad plays instead of fundamentally rectifying why there is a persistent lack of execution--if they can. Most coordinators are prideful and a lot of them sound alike but D's stick-to-it approach in the face of legendary ineptitude is excessive.

A lot of things have already been stated, but one glaring thing that I see in zone coverage is the players go to one spot and stand there like a statue.

Guys, when you're playing zone, you have to move depending on who is around you, both from your team, the other team and where the side line is. Too many times I see it on replays from different angles where we will have (especially a LB) go to a spot, there is NO one anywhere around him. For example, instead of going to said spot, check to see where the WR's are going, move. If you're an OLB and see the WR coming your way from outside to inside (crossing route/drag route), take a stride or two towards him and then move with him as he goes through your zone and then pass him off to the next guy when he leaves your zone. I was always taught that if you're standing still, you're not doing something right.

I honestly can't buy that if we just matched Gunter, Howard, Crawford and Burns up in Man with at least 1 safety over the top (sometimes two - mix it up y'know) we wouldn't shut down half of these ACC offences.

It was only UNC where the TE tore us to shreds. For every other game it's every receiver - which tells me we're running zone.

It doesnt matter what we are playing. Our guys are LOST. They don't understand what to do. That goes back to coaching. That's the bottom line. If he can't figure it out, it makes him an even worse teacher than I thought.

I think if our record had been ****tier they might have started trotting the young men out there more. Our LBs suck so bad. That is exactly who is getting picked on when they need a first down. Couple that with ****** pass rush and the abortion on the field is what you get. A Defense so neutered it can't get off the field. It is further compounded by an offense that cannot play keep away. After playing for 2.5 years, why is it feast or famine with our present QB?

It would also help if anybody could make a fackin tackle.

Question for you X's and O's guys (I'm not), are we really playing much man coverage? I'm not seeing it. Obviously the bigger concern with his statement is that he isn't planning any scheme changes. My mind simply cannot grasp that these coaches can't see what a failure their current scheme is. If you refuse to admit you have a problem you will never successfully fix it. I'm not looking forward to our last games.

Well yes and no...

We played more man against VT than any team all year, I think Dorito was panicked and was trying to come up with anything, guys were still running wide open ... Also we either are terrible at teaching it or dont go over it well because our guys are never in good position, it was raining but we seem to be trailing the majority of the time or missing a jam (Bush on Ebron comes to mind) happens almost every time. Plus when we do play man we rarely press (again scared to let these kids do work). Majority of the time we are in man but off coverage, that is hard as when you play man you want to get your hands on the guy

We mix it up but whether we are in man or zone its all soft as baby ****. Our blitz design is as bad as I've ever seen. We do nothing 95 percent of the game to actually try and confuse an opposing qb. Best play I have seen us make on defense was the Winston pick where we faked a blitz and got back into our zone confusing a young qb.

We dont play man good because we have players like AJ and Cornelius on the field. They dont belong on this team (talent wise). they are here and we are stuck with them. Lets hope the young guys behind them start getting some playing time if not hurt or redshirted to get game experience the rest of the way.

This, this, this....how is it acceptable that players are cutting people loose. This isn't year 1. All these LBs are in year 3 of this **** system....this is on you you ******* moron.
