D'Onofrio said there won't be any schematic changes on defense.

"You call 70-something plays in a game, it's hard to be right (all the time)," he said. "The thing people don't understand is generally when someone is running free is because you're in man-to-man and somebody doesn't have him. We played a lot of man, gave up two big third downs in man because we cut somebody loose.

"There's this misconception we don't play man coverage; we play it a lot, have been playing it all year. ... We mix it up."

D'Onofrio is spot on and 1000% correct. Look no further than number 31 Cornelius. He was standing in the middle of nowhere watching the QB than getting to his man.

or aj basically giving up 21 pts against florida st. scheme doesnt fix those blunders

This guy is a bum, sorry. I don't think he is very perceptive, his schemes are definitely lacking. Then they come with the kids aren't executing, some folly falls on them but the majority of it is **** poor coaching. I cringe every time I see our one legged d end with a heart of gold in coverage.

Question for you X's and O's guys (I'm not), are we really playing much man coverage? I'm not seeing it. Obviously the bigger concern with his statement is that he isn't planning any scheme changes. My mind simply cannot grasp that these coaches can't see what a failure their current scheme is. If you refuse to admit you have a problem you will never successfully fix it. I'm not looking forward to our last games.

Then why the **** is he out there? Let Figueroa or Armbrister play.

Why is AJ Highsmitrh out there? Let Carter try and fail.

You call 70 something plays because your defense sucks and can't get off the field. This F*cking guy is hilarious. He loves to say how we mix it up, we are multiple, blah blah blah. None of that matters when there is no rhyme or reason to the defensive plays that are called. I swear sometimes he just pulls plays blindly out of a hat to see if they will work. I am almost 100% certain the plays he calls are nowhere related to the offensive scheme we are playing against. This guy is pure garbage. Couple that with average talent and the result is what happened saturday.

He's right about the man coverage. The myth on this board is we don't play it. Truth is, we don't play it very well, but it is called quite a bit. We also rarely get home when we blitz, which compounds our problems in man coverage.

Are our LBs being taught to run around blocks?

Why do our LBs turn their back to the QB when they drop into Zone?

Why are we in a 4-3 when the offense has 4 WR on the field?

Why do our speed rushers stunt inside?

I agree to an extent. Yes Cornelius is not very good but a lot of that blame has to fall on coaches teaching these guys how to play within the "scheme". Duke's defense absolutely shut down the same VT offense that mopped the floor with us. Their defensive players are not very talented but they were well coached and prepared for The VT offense.

Duke by 21 is generous if his comments are serious. Its more like Duke by 35 or so and I wish I wasn't channeling my inner ***tard Kozwalski.

Like to see the Virginia noon game attendance after this Saturday's fiasco.

I don't care what defenses this guy is implementing...none of them are working! A soft schedule can only take you so far. We could have been running punt formations and won the first half of our games.

Not that I want to go here but I am. Does anyone really think that this is what would come out of Kirby Smart's mouth if they had the train run on them 5 weeks in a row? This guy isn't even thinking straight and isn't forced to because Al has not whatsoever put any heat on him. D'Onfrio believes in his product and it is everyone else's fault but him. NOT ONCE has he said, "this is on me" or "I take full responsibilty". This confirms that Mark's job security is as safe as it gets.

Our blitzes are late.
LB's are 5 yards away from los
We run man occasionally but have lbs on wr's a lot of times.

We are not running as much man as he's putting on.

Disguising is a joke, Presnap is obvious what we're running. It's even more obvious when we're blitzing.

Not hard to play offense when you know what the defense is running.

Sounds very Shannonesque.
