Mcord is no where near ready to step on a football field

Agree 100%, any way he still 'shirts?

Also agree, and yes he should if possible. How much can they be on the field before having to make that decision?

If he's played one play (I think he has) then he cannot redshirt. The only way he either gains a year of eligibility (or doesn't lose one) is by way of medical hardship.

^^^ 100% correct answer.

Correct. He plays one snap and he can't RS. However, if he is injured before playing a certain amount of time (first 3 games of the year, iirc) and is out for the year then he qualifies for that medical RS that the poster mentions.

The only one physically ready to play at his position is Bush and Eddie Johnson

Bush because he is a freak athlete and EJ bcuz he was able to redshirt. Everybody else needed a redshirt

So we should have shirted Duke and Howard?

We should have if not for our horrendous 2010 and 2011 class.

Howard I agree on. No way on Duke. The guy is averaging 200 all-purpose a game. Too dynamic.

I'm sure he was only talking about the defense.

I still think you play a kid like Howard, he's taking some lumps but he's learning the best way you can by experience on the field. This is exactly why Kirby gets PT as soons as he's healthy. Get the young pups ready for when the team is ready to make a jump.

Isn't this where those pesky shoulder ailments pop up and kids need to shut it down? IMO this won't happen with McCord, he will continue to get burn because we have no quality depth at DE.

Upper extremity I think.

Oh dear lord @ the notion of redshirting Duke.

No team in the country would have redshirted that kid this year.

Redshirts are obsolete. No stud sticks around for his 5th year anymore. The only time a redshirt should be used is for DL/OL who are too weak or raw to contribute at all. Or QBs who cant read a defense.

Duke wouldnot shirt at most any school, perhaps at Bama or LSU. Bamas stacked with Yeldon, Lacy and Hart and LSU has Blue, Hiliard, Ford and Ware.

You are f'in loaded when Ware is your 4th string RB.

Yeah I think a great system like Bama or LSU would definitely find a role for him this year though. He wouldn't instantly step on the field and be the best player like he is here, but he is dynamic. Thing is you surround him with more weapons, he becomes even more dangerous. It's going to be tough sledding for him this year being #1 on every DC's hit list.

You can't be serious.

I am. What stud sticks around here for their 5th year anymore? We can't even keep studs here for FOUR years anymore...what makes you think they're gonna wanna stick around for their FIFTH year? If they're not gonna stay here for 5 years, i'd much rather have them contributing EVERY YEAR THEY ARE ACTUALLY HERE (even if its just on special teams) rather than waste one of them on the bench.

QBs/OL/DL are the only position where RS makes sense.

We can't even keep mediocre guys around for 3 or 4 years.

Because you aren't going to have 85 studs on a team. RS is ideal because it gives another year to become more physical, improve football IQ, acclimate a player to the college lifestyle. It builds depth, improves the culture, etc.

Eddie Johnson is a good example of a guy who probably wasn't ready last year mentally but with extra year of seasoning can play meaningful snaps and so far has done well. Some kids just aren't ready and need to adjust to a quicker, more physical game. I guess you are writing off Dortch, Hope, Blue, Jones, Lockhart(?), Carter, and Dillard then.

Bama was able to RS 13 guys last year including 2 WR, 2 DB, LB, TE, RB. Its a luxury that we don't have and to call it obsolete in my mind is crazy.
