Forecast for Chicago this weekend

What does it say about Notre Dame that the best offense they've faced will be the one that they play on Saturday? Morris is clearly the best passer they've faced. Our WRs are better than anything they've faced as well. Notre Dame has been able to play low-risk offensive football and win. Maybe that continues on Saturday. Our defense is bad enough that they'll probably have a good day buy they're not that different from the Stanford team that lost to Washington this past Thursday. Play D, run the ball and and limit bad plays from your QB. Their offensives numbers are terrible and I think their defensive numbers are inflated by the competition they've faced. If the neutral site was Tampa and not Chicago I'd really like our chances. Forgive me for not being afraid of a team that uses a QB as a closer.

On Morris, even in the team's worst outing he didn't make a "ton of mistakes". Every week he grows up a little more and his QB skill shows more and more. Consistency is an issue, but he is be the best QB going into that game.

Our skill postitions on offense are meaningless without the OL playing much better than they have been. I think the entire game rests with them.

I swear to Christ if they come out wearing those white balaclavas I'm not watching.

That is the low. If the weather is around 50 when the game starts, it will simply be nice relief for our kids. And then if it is in the high 30s later on, no big deal since they'll already be hot. I am more concerned about what to pack.

Mid 70's this week and 60's next week. yet, Saturday night game in the 40's.

This just proves that at least Mother Nature is on their side.....

anyone insisting this won't affect the team has had too much kool aid. it will.

As someone pointed out, the o-line doesn't give up sacks. One sack in 100 pass attempts. Against K-State at least two of those sacks were the product of Morris holding the ball too long as well. They've played better than I expected considering the lack of starts coming into the year. Those guys haven't played much football together.

Maybe you guys dont realize I am from Vermont. I took a trip to miami two yrs ago, and when we drove back and quickly went from the 80s to the 30's it was friggin traumatic. Most of these kids have probably never played football in that cold of weather. I have, every **** hit hurts you to the **** core! Utough was performed in 90 degree heat! The coldest weather you guys see down there, and we would be wearing ******* t-shirts up here! I am probably one of the biggest koolaid drinkers around but I am worried about how these kids will react. I do think we will be ok, and will definitely still play well just given our mental toughness but there is no telling how the younger guys will react. I guarantee you will see those white things on and you will see heaters bank on it!

They need to go practice in a refrigerated warehouse somewhere. It is about toughness, but they have enough issues without being distracted by the cold.

Once again, RELEASE THE HEATERS

Cold? - Golden scoffing, with that look of "are you serious?" to any player looking for a wet suit for next Saturday. Whole different mindset, starts with the leadership.

Mid 40s is just not that cold when playing sports. We will have heaters and bikes on the sidelines. Our receivers wear gloves. Stadiums are rarely as cold as the surrounding temperature (down on the field at least, where they put the Miami fans is going to be a bit chilly if it is windy). There are so many other things to worry about in this game it is a non-factor. When it drops below freezing is when the ball turns into a rock and every tackle hurts.

If I were Golden I would have taken the team out to practice up ther esomewhere like today. Let them get 2-3 practices in cold weather and they would be significantly more acclimated to the weather come Sat. Doesn't take long, but going from 80 degrees to 40 is definately a shock for that first day.

I doubt he is allowed to do this. Plus, you have to at least keep the illusion that these kids are student athletes; you cant have them miss almost an entire week of school for one game.

Have them play in the smeltering heat this week.

That cool breeze on Saturday is gonna feel like a walk in the park

You've clearly never been to Soldier Field. I live in Chicago and the closer you get to the lake the colder it gets... and guess what??? The stadium is on the mother f***in lake!

Now that said, 40 degree weather wouldn't really be an issue except for the fact that it's in Chicago, on the lake and what does that mean? Wind... and lots of it. Unfortunately, this is ND's type of weather, which gives them the upper hand. Can we win? **** yea... we just gotta be tough and not let the weather bother us. Would be a nice departure from teams in the past and another sign of leaving the mess of Shancoker behind....

If you can't play football with temps in the md 40s, you should find another sport. Something Olympic worthy, like rhythmic gymnastics.

That's what concerns me more than the cold weather. Hopefully this doesn't affect our passing game... maybe it will help Wieclaw's kicking :rollcanes:

Dude, this is going to be one **** of a cold game! Easily the coldest weather most of these kids have ever seen. If it is that cold and overcast, then these boys are going to be mentally tested by the weather alone. I am honestly more concerned about this weather than anything else but Te'o. I am worried they wont react well, and honestly that has nothing to do with our coach, unless you think he should practice in a giant refrigerator.

I understand what you are saying, but I disagree. If you build in toughness into the players, they should be able to take the cold. Mid to high 30s is cold, but it's not that cold that the players shouldn't be able to play. Unlike hot weather where it is more of a conditioning thing, cold weather is more pain tolerance.

Mid 30's is not even remotely cold. WTF is all this ****?!? I play in less than that often in the winter here in VA and as long as you are running around, your body will stay warm.
