We can all agree the talent left on defense by randy shannon who would currently be upper classmen is a dumpster fire.
2011
Al Golden's first recruiting class and currently juniors or redshirt sophmores (What should be the core of the team)

#36 ranked class, patchwork last minute class when AG took over with no commits and no visits scheduled in December. Small class, some good finds like Dorsett and Scott, many players who never made it here or were kicked off the team
2012
top 10 class, current sophmores or redshirt freshmen, including many of the current contributors and actually talented players on the team. Lack of big recruits in the front 7 on defense and many defensive players we are still waiting and seeing on as they develop. Good class, remains to be seen whether its great or not.

2013
Top 20 class, current freshman, can't be really judged so far but seems to have some promising talent but not a lot in the front 7 on defense.

Bottom Line
There is no way to expect this team to be anywhere near a contender yet. We have no upperclassmen talent especially on defense and the talent we do have is young.
This is the first recruiting class without Nevingate and look at the depth of talent AG is bringing in. It will take a few more cycles like this until the team is ready to be elite again. Bringing in top 5 classes where most of the players can redshirt is still a few years away and having a depth chart with any kind of depth of talent.
Waiting sucks but this class should bring optimism to what AG can do without Shapiro lingering. Rome wasn't built in a day.
