For those that went to a practice

The offense looking to the sideline has nothing to do with anything. This is another dumb fan creation. Oregon and auburn look to the sideline, and it doesn't hurt them.

Call better plays and execute them better.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

all no huddle teams in college do this, including many of the absolute best offenses in the country. literally have no idea why anyone cares that miami does it.

People will complain about an undefeated season if you let em.

Complaining about the check with me stuff or the center tapping is a really good way to show you don't know very much.

You are right I don't know very much, but I saw many times a tap on the butt and morris on his. Perhaps you would be good enough to enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

All this

it makes you look incompetent when you can't make something work, when other teams are successful doing it, it makes them look like they are dictating the action

I think most fans hate it because the old guard Canes hate it. Randall Hill, Gino Toretta, and Bernie Kosar have come out MANY times and said they cannot stand it and think its bush league for an OC to not trust their QB to make the calls at the line.

Im 50/50. At this point, we are not yet at the stage where we can nitpick the offense. Once we start kicking peoples a$$e$ again, then we can complain and make judgements. Until then, do whatever works.

BUT with people saying Kaaya is this genuis and all, I expect that by his 3rd year, Coley should allow him to make his own calls at the line and scrap the sideline stuff. JMO.

The game's evolved. Mike Leach, Art Briles, Gus Malzahn, and several other guys who know a thing or two about offense utilize it. Nothing to do with not trusting your quarterback... it's not just about checking out of a bad play to an alternative, it's about getting an optimal play with what the defense gives. I don't understand why people have an issue with it... I'd much rather our 6-figure-paid offensive coordinator and assistants who watch film for hours on end get a birds eye view of what's happening and check into a play that's perfect for what they're seeing vs. an 18 year old kid who just realizes that the called play won't work so he needs to option into 1 or 2 plays that he can call ad hoc.

I hear people yelling about this in the stands all the time. For some reason no one realizes the execution has nothing to do with looking back over to the sideline.

I'd be more concerned about our DL not being set at the time of the other team snapping the ball

Clemson under Tommy Bowden was the first time I saw it. I don't care for it for all of the reasons mentioned plus I think it interrupts rhythm. That little delay also allows the defense time to adjust.

it works for many teams at the college level. you remember scam newton wasn't looking to the sidelines to that poster with random images on it to get the call? sometimes simplifying an offense or defense and just making sure your players execute to the best of their abilities is more effective them getting too technical with play calling. some of the most prolific offenses in the country don't actually run many different plays. they just execute.

They are offensive geniuses... Coley is not. Stop trying to over-complicate stuff. If we ever hire a genius OC then by all means, do whatever gives us an advantage. As it is, call the play & execute it.

It goes both ways. We've basically eliminated the quick snap for opposing D's. We all know that ball isn't getting snapped when we get up on the line of scrimmage quickly. The few times we actually did were even more obvious.

Looking to the sideline doesn't make a difference at all. It's what the coach prefers. FSU does it too and they just won the NC. Jameis looks over in his squinted rape eyes to get the call.

Patting the center on the butt is for when the O-line cannot hear the QB bc the crowd is too loud so the guard or QB taps to signal when to snap. Ohio State had Braxton Miller hand clap for the snap which to me is a lot worse bc everyone including the. Lbs, corners and safety's can see that.

I'm more concerned about the D line being set when then O snaps. Our D looked to the sidelines way too much the past 2 years and a lot of the time were not ready or in position when the ball was snapped. Coach D needs to get his **** together and a call in right away.

I sure complained during the 2002 season.

More concerning is the defense looking at the sidelines and not lining up. Saw that plenty. I don't have a problem with it on offense but on defense, not good

Actually...

Looking to the sidelines and getting the proper play call is less complicated than allowing an 18 year old to make the call from the line-of-scrimmage.
