For the people worrying about killing kaaya confidence

It will be like Washington in 2000. QB is a Deer in headlights entire first half.

Dude read my previous post he was like that a lot of times! At the end of the day it comes down to how many winning plays you make (to overcome mistakes), games are not won or loss in the first half.

Some of y'all never watched PSU games last season. Hackenburg was and is the goods. He will be a the B1G's first QB first rounder in the draft since 1995.

Dude the 2008 GT game...seriously corch Shannon at the helm with a Glenn Cook / Romeo Davis led defense that had no clue how to defend the triple option. The point is if you make enough plays you can come back. Jacory didn't even pass for 200 yards in this game NEGGED.

People can find true freshmen who started last year. Okay, that's acknowledged. So, Kaaya is a true freshman therefore.....?

That's a huge reach IMO. Kaaya may end up being an all time great here, but I'm not confident at all in trusting a true freshman QB at this point. If we were coming off a 2-10 season I would think differently, but we aren't. This team has a real chance (with admittedly a little luck) of winning the ACC.

Regardless of my feelings, I will trust what the staff decides and not ***** about it.

Go Canes.

Can any resident historians help me out here?

Didn't Jim Kelly make his first start as a true freshman at PSU?

How am I missing the point? You just gave clear reasons of how a team can lose in the first half. We scored 23 points the whole game, and they scored 24 in the first half. Their longest TD runs were in the second quarter. I guess this thing called 'momentum' that all these analysts talk about doesn't exist if it cant be acquired in the first half. The fact is you are wrong that games cant be won or lost in the first half.

And I think the definition of a winning play means you can only make one per game.

I specifically gave Brock Berlin as an example in the 2003 UM Gator game. You can not come up with a worse start for a team that trailed all the way deep into the 3rd quarter. The point being made is that a few throws in practice don't mean **** when you haven't or can't (because we don't have the film) see the whole body of work. Because just like in a game you have to play the whole game and a game can be won in the 4th if enough "winning" plays are being made.

Worrying about killing his confidence is dumb. If the kid is the guy who is going to be a big time QB here, his confidence won't be shattered because he faces some hard times as a freshman.

Times have changed true freshman qbs are playing now.

I found 4 true freshman who started last year.

Hackenburg (psu 7-5)- 2,995 yds, 59%, 20td, 10int

goff (cal 1-11)- 3,488yds, 60%, 18td, 10int

o'korn (houston 8-5) (played at sta in high school)- 3,117yds, 58%, 28td, 10int

webb (texas tech 8-5)- 2718yds, 62.6%, 20td, 9int

Take into account our o-line is better than all of theirs.

None of them had a duke johnson to hand it off to.

Our wrs/tes are 5x better.

kaaya can put up similar type numbers and if he does he would be the likely 2nd best qb in the acc.

We can and will win the coastal with kaaya. No less than 9 wins in the regualar season.

if this is an argument as to how kaaya would be projected to play as a starter day 1, i fail to see how these stats are relevant since we have different QBs, different teams, different competition, different league etc.

Though all those guys play. You play true freshman if they are just exceptional and you know without a doubt they are the best qb on the team. I don't think Golden fells that Kayaa without a doubt is better then Heaps. It's even and Heaps will win because of experience. As far instincts and knowing the game. Kayaa is far along but still needs more experience.

Hand the ball off to Duke and throw bubble screens to Coley. Rosier could win with that.

enough excuses. The coaches need to scheme to what we have. They've never done that here and they are out of excuses. You've had 4 years to build this, make THIS a winner, not the imaginary scheme in your head.

I need to get off the board for a few days.

One thing all those genius true freshmans QBs share in common is that their teams lost at least 5 games with one losing 11. I saw them all play last year, and they all had their moments, but they were sporadic.

Exactly. Whoever our QB is will HAVE to hit some PA passes to keep the defences honest. If we can't hit some deep shots, we won't be able to run the ball. Our run game works when the deep ball is a threat. Otherwise, we're in trouble. Our offence is based on the defence having to stop more than just the run. If we help them by being too conservative, it's trouble. The O will be unstoppable IF we use all our weapons, and keep defences off balance. We can only do that with good QB play, not average play.
All I want is high completion % and low turnovers. Let the playmakers make plays.

Turnovers or not, we still have to take chances. Playing not to lose (game manager) will only get you so far.
