2024 Flip Watch Thread: Mario "We Have a Lot of Guys We're Fixin' to Flip"

I watch each player film when they are recruited. Russell has been a question mark for me from Day 1. He is local so might be tricky but we have a good local flavor especially if we also add Blount. He is top of the escorted out the club. Next is Day, i think he will be a good player, but he is not local and prolly needs some time to develop. 3rd is Judd, i like his upside but if we flip JJ QB i dont see him making it in with the injury to Emory. They likely will need 2 portal QBs if JB leaves. There maybe others if we bring in highly rated players at their position, OL for example. Also there is uncertainty around Riley if we can hang on, so Lyle might be his replacement. I doubt we will have a big portal class but maybe more high end impact players.
The first two you mentioned are a possibility, but I believe there’s ZERO chance this staff ditches/squeezes Judd out of this class. We can sit here and debate his ability all day, and I’d probably agree with you on most of it, but the kid has been extremely loyal and a great ambassador for the class since day one. Plus, the staff really likes him so we just have to accept it. At the end of the day, if we can get an elite plug-and-play starting QB, and another quality backup out of the portal, I’m perfectly fine with us keeping Judd.

I agree, i think every Bank series has Dmoney saying the staff loves Judd. He's not going anywhere unless he wants to.

Flipping a bluechip QB this cycle would be the cherry at this point.
I truly am starting to believe that outside of the top 7-10 QB's in each class, you're going to see the majority of top programs go to the portal year-to-year (or every other) for their QB1. Maybe take a developmental guy in recruiting like an Emory or a Judd, but unless you're landing a true blue chip QB recruit, I don't see why you wouldn't allocate your NIL resources to the portal and to other need positions in recruiting.

They lost all those guys already? Who would want to get on a burning ship, sounds like things have gotten toxic over there..

Reason why i mentioned Judd was i dont see how they keep him and if Bailey wants it. But then again they might.

Yeah thing for me is does Mario really have a track record of taking commitments and then encouraging guys to go elsewhere?

I don’t think he did it at all last year. Could be wrong. The way he approaches recruiting seems to be taking a commitment when both sides are 1000% sure

I agree with you guys bringing up certain players, and I’m not saying it won’t happen…but I dunno.
