Fixing The Secondary

Patterson played a lot of snaps yesterday. I don’t know the snap count, but he played a good bit in the second half. And he played well from my in person perspective. He wasn’t just going to come in and take all
Of Harris snaps this game. But next game, I bet it’s 50/50 and maybe Patterson gets more snaps.

Louisville was always going to be a tough matchup and the coaching definitely needs to get better. So I actually came away from the win today feeling alright.

But I am having trouble seeing how Mario finds an immediate fix in the secondary.

- Getting Damari Brown back will definitely help.
- Development from OJ Frederique would be massive.
- Hopefully Zaquan Patterson can step up and grab one of the starting safety spots. But it is at least mildly concerning that he cannot seem to beat out Harris for the gig today.
- Robby Washington? Seems a little small. Ryan Mack? Also very small.
- The secondary class is solid, but even if Pickett flips, it is hard to see any of those guys being immediate contributors (Nobody wants to be wrong more than me).

The most concerning piece of this is that really really good cornerbacks don't enter the portal very often. Sure, Caleb Downs is elite. I am not sure I count Travis Hunter since he was always following Deion, I guess Jabbar Muhammad and AJ Harris are probably true impact guys, but after that the pickings are slim.

I know this will be the focus in the offseason and I am sure we will be in on anyone elite that enters the portal, I am just not sure this is an overnight fix. Can I contribute to Derrek Cooper and Justice Fitzpatrick's NIL package already?
Pickett is an immediate contributor if he flips to us. He will start next year, hands-down!

D line is supposed to be more dominant with a 4 man rush. Barrow, Bain, Baron, Mesidor - thats a lot of talent, need a bit more out of them on pass rush. Otherwise, agree with blitzing every 2nd and 3rd down (send Kiko please) and some random Cb/S blitzes

It’s 4 game in a row.., averaging giving up like 39 points a game over the last 4…

We all thought Louisville would score, but going into every one of the previous three this place thought the team we were playing was ***… now the board reads like we played juggernauts…

7-0. Enjoy it. Kick FSUs ***. Not sure we need fiction on top of it…

Yeah I keep saying that we are getting too cute with the stunts. We stunt on nearly EVERY DOWN!! Stunts are supposed to be done every so often to catch the line off guard. If you do it continuously, they know it’s coming. Stunting can open up running lanes and leave open spots. Often times guys ran into each other and other times contain was lost. Straight rush has less weaknesses. Especially when you have guys in the middle that can rush the passer, which we do.

Stop playing the same guys who continuously make the same mistakes. Patterson should be starting over Harris. OJ should be starting over Hill and Richard. Why he suddenly went down the depth chart is beyond me. All Guidry talks about is experience especially from the safety group but if the experience is dog****, what the **** does it matter. Alderman and Popo should be taking snaps from Kiko as well. Guidry is a huge part of the problem too. Dude just isn’t a good DC.

This is the answer and brown is nowhere near returning.

It is what it is, failures of past coaches and lack of talent acquisition in the portal has Miami in this mess.

Just brutal evals and misses.

To me the issue in the passing game is between the hashes.

That is on the safeties and linebackers in coverage. Powell is a big liability in the passing game. They targeted him on the first drive and then he was a step behind on everything.

On the broadcast they even shared that the Louisville coach thought they had an advantage in the passing game versus our linebackers.
