Braxton Miller was useless against Miami as a freshman. When their starting QB was injured, it was game over. He couldn't run the offense.

This. Dude is a front runner to win the Heisman this year. As a freshman against Miami on the road, Dorito's defense (with awful talent) rendered him useless.

Wait I'm confused - do we want Heaps or Kaaya to start now?

Personally I hope Isaac Hoza gets the nod.

So we are flying banners if Kaaya doesn't start against UL? :)

Seriously. I don't understand how no one is realizing it is more than just who can sit back there and throw a better ball.

Our strength will continue to be the running game. The 5th yr guy may not be that much better than what we are hoping is the truth of a freshman when they both drop back. But he sure as **** is better at making the right calls and adjustments of the line at the line.

That's why he has the edge and why he will start. Because that will make all the difference in our running game.

Kaaya is going to run **** here for years, but with duke running how he's running, checking at the line is more important than anything else.

You guys are fooling yourselves if you think it's not going to be Heaps. Unless Kaaya is head and shoulders better we're not going into a nationally televised night road game with a true freshmen quarterback.

This.
Nothing that has come from a credible source indicates that that Kaaya is better than Heaps "By a lot" (LOL).
Video's that have been released show both Heaps and Kayaa making good throws, making bad throws and making bone headed throws.
So I'm not sure where the "Team Kayaa" crowd is thinking that Kaaya is playing better. Wishful thinking is my only explanation.

But what you say makes sense. Start the senior unless it's clear as day that Kayaa gives the team a better chance to win.
Heaps should be able to handle the pressure better. And if he doesn't pull him out and put in Kaaya. Empirical evidence :eek:suggests that QBs that come in off the bench play with less pressure and as a result play better.
It really is a win win to start Heaps.

I'd like to review those studies.

Jimbo didn't in 2012

He had an all ACC QB who went 1st round...cmon dude

And sat the more talented freshman. Who is a heismN winner and national champ. Makes sense

Same Freshman who was going around having BB gun shootouts on campus ?? Yea I would like to think he wasnt mature enough to handle the job as a true freshman...... wouldnt you?

He was also accused of sexual assault and stole crab legs so let's not pretend he suddenly grew up in his redshirt year, he did plenty okay being immature his Heisman season. He was better then manual but the coach went with the guy who already put in his work. This isn't the NFL, 99% of players in college have to sit behind somebody for however long. It doesn't mean he is bad, or he can't play, it just means the guy ahead of him has paid his dues. It's something called seniority and it's a bigger deal in college then the pros.

And I won't get into the details of Heaps time at Kansas or BYU as I doubt you will change your mind. Nobody is successful at Kansas so the fact that heaps wasn't doesn't shock me, and he was average at BYU, not near as bad your making it sound.

Let us not forget that ej had years in that system which was the reason he started over lameis. I cant tell you its bad or good to start a freshman at qb but i will say this heaps track record scares the **** out of me. As we all know if Williams was healthy this conversation never takes place.

He wasn't beat out by a true freshman. The true freshman started two game because their season was a dumpster fire. The freshman wasn't good and Heaps played plenty in the final two games. All of Kansas QBs have stunk because the players around them stink. Its why Weis went to a system that takes advantage of the new QBs athletic ability.

Kinda like Berlin and Crudup in 2003 after the loss to the Vols. Crudup was not good against Syracuse and Coker went back to Berlin. Except that Miami team was so much better than Kansas.

No. Heaps was benched because he was statistically one of the worst quarterbacks in football.

And your Berlin/Crudup example is wrong. Berlin kept the job in spring and had a good season in 2004. Heaps was beaten out by the true freshman he was benched for. That's why he's here.

Kaaya starts and IF (huge IF) the defense improves to at least top 35, we're going 10-2 and winning a bowl and i'll put up a lifetime ban on it

Now, wait a sec. Your Heaps history is wrong...well, incomplete. I'm not here to defend Heaps, just saying it was a combination of his poor performance AND a shift by Jabba the Weis to a Spread Read Option offense that the dual-threat Freshman who replaced him was tailor-made for. That's an important point. Heaps is a pro-style QB with limited mobility, and he struggled mightily in a Spread Read Option offense, so--he left Kansass to go to an offense more suited to his style of play (and to hopefully play better in). The system and the lack of playmakers around him at Kansass likely had something to do with his terrible statistics, so the two points yourself and fincane are making kind of go hand-in-hand.

Let's tell the whole story, not just the piece that supports your touting of HBK aka Kaaya the Messiah aka Felicia's Boy. For the record--I want Kaaya to start. If Kaaya's that good, no need in dogging Heaps to make him look better.

How could the kid be a true freshman if he played in 2013? He was a sophomore eligibility wise in the spring. Just don't mention that a new offensive coordinator was brought in over the spring as well. The new starter rushed for "70 yards" in the spring game in an offense more suited for his skills.

Weis wasn't going to name Heaps the starter the rest of the way last season but he brought him in twice to end the year so the true freshman didn't beat anybody out. Weis started prepping for the future. If Cozart(the frosh) had played more his stats would've been worse than Heaps. That offense was awful all the way around. Weis hasn't had good QB play since Brady Quinn.

I wonder if Coker hired a guy and brought in the spread option offense over the spring how Brock Berlin would've fared.
