First Game of 2013--Who are the Starters?

Why would you redshirt a JUCO if he is healthy? That defeats the whole purpose of JUCOs.

We used to Shirt JUCO's all the time. Just because they're JUCO doesn't mean they've been in a real strength and conditioning program and they also have to learn the playbook. Thinking someone is going to come in and unseat the DT's we have now is wishful thinking. Smith came in and started and was nothing special and he's already been benched by the up and comers.

Darius Smith was a desperation move because we had no one else.

Comparing him to a "beast JUCO" (ie Hooks) is silly. Those type of players aren't coming in to redshirt.

hey BEAST DT...come here and sit for another year, learn the playbook, and get in our s and c program and you'll see the field when you're 28 y/o. what's that? your other teams that offered you said you're playing right away???

- Don't know what leads some of you to think Robinson is going to play over Pierre. At this point next year, Pierre might be our best DLineman.
- I think Flowers plays LT
- I think Kirby is our surefire MLB
- I think AJL becomes an impact player by mid-season
- I think we need to find a ****ing Running Back (if Collins doesn't revert)

Pierre has come up as of late, but Robinson has been showing flashes all year. In fact, he's been our best DL in a few games.

If he is consistent on and off the field, I think he can start over Pierre.

Still not buying into the AJL hype. His reputation is becoming Bunyan-esque. Those make me nervous.

I think Robinson's *looked* like our best DLineman in some games because he shoots gaps (one-gap, freelance) when he's apparently told to play 2-gap and control the line. There's a reason he's been benched when he "looks" good.

AJL hype is based on what I saw in HS. We shall see when he steps foot on campus and when the lights turn on.

Well, I'm sure his general attitude and supposed laziness also gets him benched (his dad ain't helping matters, either). It might be a function of gap control, as you mention, but there were many times if you isolate on him, you see his ability to shed blockers very effectively. I was more focused on that ability rather than his ability to control gaps (so, striclty evaluating as a DL with ability, not necessarily a DL with ability to play a scheme).

Juco is basically redshirting for dummies (literally) so no need for them to redshirt.

That's just it, we don't have to be desperate this recruiting class. The DT position has plenty of numbers right now. The position for the most part is just young and inexperienced. That beast Juco transfer these guys keep harping on will be even more beastly by shirting and getting the playbook down. I'd rather get two solid years out of a Juco like we used to do than to rush them into PT and waste one of those years. Nobody should be rushed into the trenches at Miami and until these guys are shirted and developed properly Miami will never be back. All the lol's and roffles weak *** BS won't change that.

LOL, how deep do you think the playbook goes for a DT?

if the rumors about Scott are true, he is gone.

I also think Robinson is gone. He is not that good, and his dad is too much of a pain.

No inside info, just using common sense.

AJL needs a lot of work to play at this level. He will redshirt next year like he is supposed to.

So what are the rumors exactly?

If he has the top-end speed I expect, I really doubt that. We need a WR who can stretch the field vertically without being forced into the slot to do so (ala Dorsett).

I see Lockhart much more likely to fill that role.

Regarding AJL, what kind of speed we talking? I remember seeing his HS footage and while no doubt he's fast, I didn't see "game breaker". Maybe I didn't see the right highlights.

Wide receiver becomes a big area of concern all of a suddenly with the departure of Davon Johnson, the uncertain status of Scott, and the serious injuries to Lewis and Lockhart.

I mentioned this in another tread, but AJL ran a 4.59 electronic 40 at The Opening

Mariucci loved AJL in the All-Star game and said he was basically uncoverable the whole week. Love his potential.

Reggie Wayne-type speed, it seems.
