Final spring observations

Everyone is so fixated on the d-line. Does it suck? Yes. But so do other groups on this team.

I can't look at the team out of the context of the scheme. We run a 2 gap 3-4 Cover 3. Our d-line issues have been huge. Unless there was a giant leap forward, we have struggled with holding the edge and gaps up front, so teams gash us. We generate ZERO interior pass rush with our line. We have to rely on inside backer blitzes that are terribly designed, leaving us vulnerable. No player has ever notched more than 5 sacks in a season; other teams with 5 and high 4 star pass rushers can get their guys to have 3 or 4 in one game! Our linebackers have consistently struggled with their gap integrity and in coverage, especially in route recognition. Our tackling has sucked balls in the back 7. For the DBs, I can't remember the last time our secondary read a route combo, jumped the zone and made a play on the ball. ****, even when we get a QB to throw to someone in the deep 3rd, we can't make a god**** play on the ball. We constantly incorrectly pass guys off in zone and can't make a play on the ball in man. If all of those things have been fixed, then congrats, we'll have a decent defense with the depth we have. If not we're ****ed defensively, and that's before the offense..

Offensively, we relied heavily on the run game and play action. A majority of our plays were to Walford in the middle of the field or PD deep. If we can't run the ball because of our O-Line, we can't rely on the PA game. If our o-line can't pass block, the PA pass game doesn't matter. It will be nothing but bubbles and screens. Could we go 4-wide in the gun and let Kaaya lead us to points? Maybe, but Golden doesn't want that kind of pace and tempo. He want's to bleed the clock and let his ****** defense rest because they are on the field all **** game. Now imagine having this philosophy with 4 new starters on the o-line and no depth. It's easy to blame one position, but this team concept and roster management is absolutely ******. Throw in suspect play calling in a system that doesn't fit our personnel and you have losing seasons with 6 NFL players

Excellent post.

6 or seven wins and the new President and Blake, and the slurpers, will dance in the streets like Iranians signing a nuke deal with Obama.

"You're probably right. I just feel like 8 wins we'll hear a lot of "the record improved" talk, and he'll be off the hot seat.
I don't think we'll win only 4 games. Heck, we were worse in 2013 and won 9. My fear isn't winning 4 games, it's winning 8. Not bad enough to get Golden fired, and not good enough to win anything meaningful. 4 wins is a pipe dream, and so is 12. For that reason, we split the difference and win 8, making NO ONE happy. Well, at least no fans.
I think even 7, he stays."

Administration expects ACCCG appearance or he will be fired. From a BOT member.
And that's beyond pathetic. But thanks for outing yourself.

Well said. I'll add that across multiple seasons on the defensive side of the ball in-game adjustments are also either non-existent or ineffective.

The scheme isn't the big problem. The 2 gap works in college and nfl.

The problem is not having the players to run it. This team doesn't have the size and power needed. When notre dame used it they were big in the front 7. Bama front 7 is big and stanford as well.

They have to 1 gap this year especially with grace & kirby playing 3-4 ILB.

O-Line i'm not that worried. Darling would be much better at guard than tackle.

You can go with kc, darling, linder, isidora, gabadois or st.louis, kc, linder, darling, gabadois. Fsu & bama started frosh LT and was fine.

As far as record is concerned. No team with a good experinced Qb that has some talent on a team has won less than 8 games.

RG3 at baylor with a horrible defense won 9 games, bridgewater as a frosh won 6 games and 12 as a soph, matt barkley won 9 as soph, hundley at ucla his 2nd year they won 9.

Stephen morris and jacory won 9 in their 2nd year as starters. If kaaya makes the jump in year 2 the team has more talent than any in the coastal.

Holy crap at this entire post, especially the bolded.

You aren't worried about the OL? LOL.

No i'm not worried about the o-line. Everybody was crying saying the same **** about it last year and kehoe got them boys **** together.

Everybody likes the 4-3 but no matter who the coach was last year a 4-3 would not have worked.

Mccord at 230 and harris at 230 playing with their hand in the dirt every snap would have got killed because neither are strong.

This team didn't have the d-line last year for a 2 gap 3-4 or a 4-3.

I never wanted golden hired here to begin with but when players are ******* up basic **** like cover 2 and 3 coverages and looking confused that aint coaching.

You can't make players have football IQ and i see a huge lack of that on defense mainly.

dorito will get fired midway through the season for another embarrassment at nebraska
only if Al gets fired. He HAS NEVER fired a coach that worked for him. EVER

Tell that to Franklin and Carroll.

The two guys who were demoted to NFL jobs?

Charity cases after CAG greased their butts. That big bumbling oaf Brandin basically moved back in with his dad after getting kicked out of college by Dean CAG with a 0.5 gpa.

God I hope you're right. I want real results. I'm about as patient as they come, but I'm all out of patience.

This was by far the most depressing and frustrating spring game I have attended.

*IMO we did not look like a Miami team. Soooo many pedestrian players all over the field. The O-line is just a bunch of guys. The DL has some decent talent, with one elite guy IMO. At LB it's Grace and then everybody else. Ironically, Grace is the type of LB we tend to keep away from during recruiting. The CB positon is downright pathetic for the University of Miami. And don't get me started on the WR position. It's Berrios, Coley, Waters and then everybody else. And nobody stands out as a #1 guy IMO. Regardless, our offensive isn't creative enough to get guys in space and allow them to make plays. The RB position? *yawn* It would be nice to have one of the countless South Florida RB's that we missed out on.

*There is nothing innovative about this offense. And don't give me BS about how it was only a spring game and we were being vanilla. Good offenses use CONCEPTS not plays, and concepts are built in. There's no way to make them vanilla. I love Kaaya to death but I have a feeling he's going to be hurting behind this O-line without Dorsett and Walford.

*I didn't see any 2-gap stuff on the D-line, which was encouraging. Looked like they were getting after it every play. They were in the backfield all day.

*I still see too many instances where guys are wide open against our defense. Often times when the offense would run 3x1 (trips) either the #2 or #3 receiver would be wide open down the seam and/or middle of the field. Sometimes we didn't even put a defender over the slot WR's and the offense could've throw "bubble" all day. But again, our offense wouldn't see that and exploit it. (cause we're slappy)

I could be overreacting but my OC buddy who played QB at the U thought the same thing. We both left a little early. It was unbearable to watch at times.

lol now we know why they didn't televise that bull****.

Can't wait for this team to go winless in October.

4-8. Just no way we win with these schemes. If our chitty OL is as bad as advertised, I fear for Kaaya's health. This could be a very ugly season. Talked with some Canes fans in the 305 yesterday. We all agreed we were very enthusiastic Golden at first, but have been deeply disappointed and want him gone NOW.
