Fernando Mendoza

Then who have they pursued, outside of the pipe dream of the number 1 quarterback. And I never said they aren’t pursuing a QB. They are clearly very selective based on how they perceive Emory which is evident so far from their QB pursuit.

We were equally, if not more, selective last year when Emory had a broken arm.

So let's not read too much into this "confidence in Emory" bull****.

I think it’s been said by many here that it’s 3am at the club.

Well, now the lights have been turned on and you get to see the faces of the ugly girls left.

I think you have to get 2 QBs now.

Someone with experience, whatever and wherever that maybe and an inexperienced, highly rated QB that hasn’t played yet that is in the portal.

This “Mario is waiting on a playoff QB” thing. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Lights just came on and you finally get to see what the “hot blonde” that your friend has been gasing up all night looks like…..

Mateer ran for over 800 yards on better than 4.5 YPC and 15TD (Mendoza 105 yds on 1.2 YPC and 2 TD, for reference). He’s the best portal QB and it’s not remotely close, and it’s not just the stats but it’s clear if you watch him. Not saying other guys can’t win games, but Mateer is on a different level, so really no point in trying to compare any of them. We didn’t get the guy this year.

Think he made a horrible, horrible decision going to OU but oh well.

He can always be back in the portal in spring.. :-)

I don’t think there was any interest. We are all assuming they have all the money they need and that may not be true.

This site is so ******* toxic. Where did I say anything about how good Emory is. I said the staff sure is making it seem like they really like Emory. That’s the perception I got from how the staff never pursued a quarterback so far in the portal. Is that a wrong account? Mateer was a pipe dream and they never pushed for anyone else.

Again, Emory ain’t it. I never stood on some hill that Emory was something he wasn’t prior to Saturday. I have clearly said I believe the staff thinks highly of him. The staff, not me.

At this point I’m so over this conversation. The amount of people going back to find posts and push this narrative of I’m right your wrong is surely telling.

My first child was born Friday, and watching the game with him Saturday was the greatest joy ever. I didn’t give a **** about Emory, this ****** defense the score or whatever. It’s football. I enjoyed it for what it was. This site has a lot of people that just love to try and dance on people’s graves to make em feel better or whatever other reason. Yall enjoy this offseason and crying over **** out of your control.
sounds like you have lot to let out. if you had a child born a few days ago, why are you on here? help the wifey get as much rest as she can between feedings. also congrats.

Congrats on your first child, Rey! A true blessing, especially around this time of year with the holidays.

Regarding the Canes, what it comes down to is not what you, me or anyone else here says. We all have opinions based on what we see. Some better than others.

The real concern is how this staff is not able to evaluate and develop QBs (Cam Ward doesn’t count).

The process they go on how they try and acquire portal QBs is flawed. Not your fault or anyone here, obviously.

You are just catching flak for communicating what you know and when people don’t like the message, you catch some collateral damage.

why does cam ward not count?

why do we think they can't evaluate when 99% of this board thinks luke nickel is an absolute gem and underrated by every major recruiting service.

ND, Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Arizona State, all have portal qb's starting - that's just the starters and just playoff teams. UGA has rashada on the bench

caleb Williams, jayden daniels, baker Mayfield, kyler Murray, jalen hurts, etc. the list goes on, and on, and on, and on

why does miami not get credit for 1) winning the cam ward recruitment, and 2) helping cam ward go from day 2 pick to top 5 (maybe first overall)? is that not "development"?

Thank you. It is. Truly amazing. Everyone’s doing awesome.

Couldn’t agree me too.

joe burrow, joe milton, will levis, d'eriq king (with manny as HC)

I mean what are we doing here? complaining that we're doing the same exact thing as every other program in college football? but BETTER because we landed the best QB?

we have nickel, the plan is pull a ND and hopefully have him start sophomore year it seems (ND has stated they are not going to the portal for the 3rd straight year)

Yes - Cam was better at Miami. Did they develop him or did they just have better weapons around him in terms of OL, skill
Positions, etc. I would say that was 70% Cam, especially when he’s the one calling and changing plays at the line over the coaches making him better.

I also don’t count Cam because if he doesn’t commit here at the last minute, we would’ve been stuck with Poff and Emory as our QBs and we end up with 5 or 6 wins.

The QB evaluations since Mario has gotten here have been putrid.

TVD - I believe that was 60/40 on TVD but they didn’t help him as best as they could, IMO.

They evaluated and decided to keep Jacurri. Look at this portal process now.

This coaching staff is a complete **** show recruiting QBs both in high school and portal.

CJ Bailey was in your backyard: they evaluated and went with Judd over him.

They evaluated and went with Emory over Rocco Becht, whom just beat us in a bowl game.

The list goes on.

it's different now - I'm not saying they are qb guru's, but upwards of 70% of high school qb's end up portaling (might be more than that after this cycle)

going back and forth about evaluations of players that most undoubtedly will portal OR chose to go to their respective teams for earlier playing time is silly. Why does rocco becht go to Iowa state? to play. he wasn't going to be playing here, no matter if we ended up with cam or not. apparently emory was cool with sitting.

you say you don't count cam because we got him last minute. You would have blamed Mario and Dawson for missing on cam, saying you don't give them credit for getting him because it was last minute (it really wasn't as it was january 13th) is just hypocritical

high school QB signings have turned into depth pieces with the hope that a crown jewel finds it's way in - and it's clear they are hoping that is nickel

Why is this thread still open? We can only do harm for future opportunities at this point- even though I don’t take Mendoza as a multi transfer kind of kid

407 - It’s the process and “plan” in how they got about things - both from a high school and portal recruitment.

It’s an unsustainable model. Just like it was unsustainable to keep relying on Cam to win us games. How did we not have a good defense this year?

The whole operation is below par especially with the amount of money and resources Mario is getting. He’s gotten more than anyone ever has here and he’s ******* Manny Diaz in terms of results.

This is a results business!!!!

You are correct on QB recruitment. What the process should be is a portal QB while your own QB.

If you have Rocco here, he probably likely does way better than Emory did last year and certainly in the bowl game and we are rolling into this year with him as the starter and we aren’t scrambling around for a last minute QB.

Then he would be the perfect QB to then hand the reigns off to Nickel to then Coleman, etc, if the evaluations and development is right.

i'm also confused because rocco was a '22 recruit and emory was a '23 but i don't remember hearing about him so maybe I'm missing something

but if you're right, and if somehow we did choose between them, it's still silly to talk about "what if's" when we don't know what mattered to the players. Rocco has been a full time starter for 2 years (didn't play his first year), emory has sat for 2 years. would rocco have agreed to sit here for 2 years? probably not - and it's probably why we didn't get him (or why the staff didn't go after him like you're saying)

it's not always as simple as choosing one over the other and every other factor is the same
