I keep hearing this everywhere and in reality, although UNC is important, it is not in the top 3 most important remaining games.

Those are VT, UVA, and Duke.

UNC is ineligible for post season play, so if they beat us and we finish second to them or tied with them, we will still go to the ACCCG ahead of them. UNC is still very important in that it's a Coastal opponent and divisional record plays a huge role in the tiebreaker system, IIRC.

But we can lose to UNC, and FSU for that matter, and still have a 90% chance to win the Coastal by beating those 3 other teams i mentioned.

honestly, i don't want to back in to the ACC champ game considering how pathetic the coastal is.

Backing into the ACCCG, albeit pathetic, would provide a big morale boost heading into 2013 regardless of the outcome of the ACCCG and/or a bowl game.

UNC is important because of the beatdown last week. I want to see how the staff and players respond to that.

respectfully, the OP's post makes no sense. it is a huge game because we cannot afford many loses in the ACC. it doesnt matter whether UNC can or cannot play in an ACCCG. what matters is that we win the coastal and to do so we need the fewest losses in the ACC.

every game is important when you have 60 underclassman, and the ncaa hanging over your head

I hope we rebound like we did after Kansas game. Get this non-acc game out of our heads (as much as it hurt).

This.

And the fact that we will self-impose a post season ban anyway. Still would be nice to win the Coastal even though we won't play in the ACCCG.

if the mantra from the fanbase is :"all we care about is national titles" then self-imposing shouldnt make a difference to us. because we arent winning one this year or next year.

a 2nd self-imposed ban would be without precedent, and would basically hamstring the ncaa into accepting that penalty and closing the book on our case.

its not fair to the kids on this team, or the coaches, but if golden et al are really all about bringing the program back to prominence, its the best long-term solution.

i don't think we self impose another bowl ban especially if we win the coastal.

we need the extra practices and experience from a bowl game and a win would go a long way with recruiting and momentum into next year.

we have to win the ACC before we can dream of a MNC. winning the coastal in a rebuilding year like this one would be a big step (even though the division is pathetic)

The op is spot on in regards to making it to the ACCCG (others may be right in why it is important for other reasons). Of course every ACC game is important, but of all of the ACC games left, UNC is the least important one. Again, not to say it's not important, but FSU and especially VT, UVA, and Duke are more important to us in terms of getting into the ACCCG. To put it another way, if we were told we were only going to lose one of our remaining ACC games but we got to pick which one, we would pick UNC as that would guarantee we make it to the ACCCG.
