Bump.
@Liberty City El would be grateful for your thoughts on this crazy turnaround in our recruiting momentum.
It's a multitude of things.
They recognized the mistakes they made in the past with certain recruits, Manny changed the recruiting policy in terms of holding kids accountable to their verbal & making the Miami offer/commitment actually mean something.
There's also been a concerted effort within the recruiting department from Andy Vaughn, to Pop Cooney & DVD on down, plus adding guys like Edwin Pata, Terry Jefferson, Telly Lockette, Benedict Hyppolite & of course Ed Reed has signaled the shift in the paradigm for how we're approaching local recruiting.
But the C19 shutdown inadvertently has had a very large impact. It prevented the usual movement you see going on throughout the year, usually kids take visits all through Spring & Summer to other campuses, they go on year round 7v7 trips as well to other states & get to visit with schools but without that heavy travel schedule kids are less familiar with those programs & don't have the built in relationships with the staffs at those schools like they do at Miami.
And because of Covid we're basically in a recession & due to the economic downturn going on in the country Big money boosters are not tossing around cash left & right like they used to because they're not going to get a return on their investment in this economy. Even if you're a rich guy with a sizable amout of disposable income you'd be stupid to spend that on recruiting in a year where there's no visits, a truncated season & no guarantees that that money is coming back.
So, once you take away a lot of teams element to cheat, what's left? Old fashioned recruiting. Basically, the coaching staff that can connect with the kid & his family the best are winning these battles they usually would lose because there's very little to any kind of under the table cash involved, now it's just all about your ability to be authentic & sell your program based on what makes the most logical sense to kids & their families. It's a harder sell to convince a mother/father to be on board with sending their kid thousands of miles away in the middle of a Global pandemic when there's no certainty that your son will be completely taken care of by a staff you don't know & don't trust.
That's where Miami has the advantage right now... Under these circumstances parents can trust their kids being safe going to school 15 minutes up the road with coaches they've met & talked to dozens of times.
