Fall Practice Summary - Day 1

View as article
No. What you do in the Summer prepare you for Fall camp. You separate yourself "in" Fall camp based on what you do in the Summer. So, you get the promotion in the Fall camp after your Fall camp performance validates the hard work you put in the Summer.
And this is why you're sitting behind a keyboard and not coaching D-1 college football...

Serious question, Austin. Is Few a guy who can legit play for us in ACC play? Looks in the Twitter clips I’ve seen of practice like he really belongs out there. Is he just a practice player or does he have the body and athleticism to really get out there and play?
He can definitely contribute if given the opportunity. He has enough athleticism but most importantly he's a good route runner and can get himself open and he catches the ball. I'd put him in a rotation before Njoku, Harley and Wiggins as of now.

Can we flip the script and acknowledge how impressive it is for Zion to come in and appear to take LT as a freshman? Huge props.

Tyron Smith frame and athleticism. Hopefully he has it between the ears as well.

Agree on the Tyron frame. Zion has special feet but a ways to go until he’s strong enough.

Haha if you don’t think coaches are involved I don’t know what to tell you, brah.
See post above mine.

I played college basketball. After every preseason “player run practice” there was an hour meeting with the coaches and captains about literally everything that happened during that practice and then, when that was over, the coaches told us exactly what to do at the next days practice. And that wasn’t D1/P5.

That would be the most disappointing development imo. Reed was supposed to be a star and some even thought he would play a lot as a TF. Thought he would have locked down that G spot easily by now.
He’s has other good players in front of him with starting experience. No point in speculating this early in camp anyways. Still only a redshirt freshman

I like to focus on all the positive news..
Pope much improved and the player we were hoping, Zion the real deal, Hedley confirms his leg, Hodges lining up to be a beast and the QB position is competitive.
Figure out tackles and we back!

I just wanna see Hedley rugby tackle someone on a punt return.... That would make my season..lol

Sign that dude and watch him have a nice NFL career. I remember him abusing some really hyped kids in HS. Dopey fans don’t think he can play because he’s white and came in as a walk on.

It has everything to do with him being a walk on nothing to do with his whiteness.. Football politics has always stated that you have to be twice as good as a scholarship player to get playing time it sucks

All that talk was based on hisnstrength, not his actual technical ability or demonstrated play.

Scaife is a potential All-American at guard. If he can play there that says more about the staff's confidence in the tackle position. Not about Reed.

Hard to overcome the stigma or have coaches that don’t care about it. If he was a 4.4 guy instead of likely a high 4.5-4.6 ish in high school then he could’ve gone anywhere he wanted on scholarship from the start

Yes sir, I went to the Ponte Vedra/AH game a few years back, people in the stands told me the dude had no scholarship offers after that game...absolutely none,, couldnt believe it. He lacks long speed but he can play

That's my point. Leadership from what? Summer workouts are player run. There is no coaching and how do you evaluate player run workouts when all 3 QBs were doing Summer workouts? In the weight room you have Feeley to provide feedback to the coaches which I'm sure he has. In Manny's interview, he talked about Martell and how he "earned it" over the Summer and I'm like earned what?

This was pages ago. Still I couldn’t ignore it. Have you ever in your life played an organized team sport?

You’re asking how a PLAYER could step up and be a leader in PLAYER run summer workouts?

He earned the right to start by pushing himself and his teammates over the summer. So did a lot of other guys who got the start at camp.

He wants the job the most. Doesn’t mean he’ll start game one. Sure as **** means he deserved to start the first practise.

Eh. There is no way we have confidence in the tackle position. We have two spots and no proven tackles. If Reed were game ready, Scaife would be a tackle by need. And then we’d also have 4 guys who can play, we’d find the next best option for OT, and we’d help out the 5th guy as needed.

With Scaife inside, we have a solid G-C-G so that’s good, but we are going to have guys coming around the corner both ways, which is concerning.
