Even Plies know (regarding Ward)

new that group ...yall older than me but i use to be around lol

Remember when GARCIA had an underground following
EFN was one of our longest running supporters with The Cipher. Danny from Shoe Gallery was our first advertiser (til we closed shop). But CrazyHood started advertising in issue 2 until the end. Crazy seeing how Drink Champs has popped off. That guy embodies persistence!

305HipHop was critical for me with all the SNS artists! I used to get a lot of material over to them.

Man I love hearing some of these names, crews, venues again. A real blast from the past! I've got to share some of the Culo/Calle Ocho pics here...that was a wild day 😅

Do you remember the barbershop that Pit used to go to...was on 67th and Chomestead. There was a supermercado on the opposite side of 67th that I used to always get loaves of Cuban bread from lol I've been trying to remember the name of it for the longest!

But yeah they were working that Lollipop record heavy when Pit signed to Luke back then. I remember Angie was ****ed because Puff had offered him a deal to Bad Boy but Pit wanted to rep the hometeam.

Dam the good ol days.. where I use to get all my Florida and Jook music from.. before the streaming era sites like this was the only go to.

I could really go Katt Williams on this whole thread i.e. Gates, Khaled, Jaime Foxx, Plies, etc

No hearsay here...

2004-2009 I was there for every moment...

@DMoney "Kept It Too Real", one of my favorite records we ever did.
@Brooklyndee , Khaled has issues dating back to Ace Hood "Stressin". HE is NOT the person to speak on authenticity...I can go back to Mixx 96 days on him. "Stressin" is a two-track on the album, fyi because he didn't want to pay the $30k for the record and we weren't giving him files for free. He missed mix/master deadline for pressing, but Ace Hood wanted that on the album.

Also, Plies and Gates aren't even blood brothers (different mothers, "step" via Plies' mother, Gates father's relationship). And Gates is his brother's downfall. Plies is overall a good dude...but Gates always had a spell on him. But The goons around them were the real deal...they are/were very dangerous. Plies was a legit athlete (football, baseball, boxing) and could hold his own.

And Plies was always iffy about Miami (he has a puncture near his lung from an instance back in the days). But security, not Plies, kept him safe (as is their job). Bermane Stiverne even did part time security for us at time (specifically in Miami). But that White 747 from 36 Ounces/"Take-Off" days was bought in Allapattah. Post 36 Ounces, Plies couldn't go grocery shopping in Florida without being mobbed...so security became every present

Just some breadcrumbs
Were you there when Plies was hiding in the bathroom from the Crips at the Jamie Foxx video shoot?

Yeah bro it probably was from TJ because I don't think B-Rich is around anymore and TJ still manages him and TJ was critical to artists in the SE back then. He was also tied in to one of those DJ alliances too (think it was Core DJs) which gets you access to all those mixshow DJs that will help break your records. But Jim was really hot at that time from Pretty Ricky and Trick's "Lets Go". That got him that label deal at Atlantic. He was working out of the Slip-N-Slide studio up to that point and dipped when Ted wasn't holding up his end of the bargain. And then he started working out of Blumstein's spot and got to work a lot with Pain as well because of that. Jim ended up very plugged into the Tally scene. Pain is a funny dude...but hella talented!

But maaaaaan, that Phillip Lawrence one hurt. Basically, the way we usually operated was majority rules between me, Plies and Gates. Plies and I wanted to sign him. Gates wouldn't budge. Gates then proceeded to swant us to sign two acts that appeared on 106 & Park that he saw on the TV while locked up at Coleman (Unique Image and Chris J, who was on "Put It On Ya" off Da REAList). None of that obviously panned out lol Chris is now the lead singer for The Bar-Kays...they just did the halftime show at The Independence Bowl too this year.

I'm honest with myself though. If I would have signed B.O.B. to Slip N Slide and Phillip to Big Gates, it would have been the worst thing for their careers. My talent identification ability, ear and ability to put develop quality product is one thing. But that was NOT the right systems for either of them. The best thing that happened to them was me having sh*tty business associates lol Phillip was ultimate picked up by Mike Caren as a part of The Smezingtons (with Bruno and Ari) and within months he hit me up to tell me that he landed hook for Travie McCoy's "Billionaire"...then it was history!
What about South Beat records, man what a pool of talent they had go to waste on that label.

Yeah one of many. Can't win them all...but man some of these misses stung! And Tony is a cool dude. I keep up with him on FB still

He's a real cool cat. He really believes in his artists and goes to bat for them everytime. He was really crushed that the Bedo album was shelved back in 07. I remember him telling me, "the song your team did for him is 106 & Park certified" , and then would proceed to sing the hook; "I know U Luv Dat" lol

Were you there when Plies was hiding in the bathroom from the Crips at the Jamie Foxx video shoot?
Not exactly how that went. Jamie is a comedian first and foremost. So he embellished the story being a funny guy. Crips rolled up to "talk". That is definitely not why they showed up. They were going to start some sh*t. Security did what they are paid to do and secured Plies. It didn't matter that they were Crips, Bloods, Zoes, Latin Kings or anyone. This would be the case anywhere in any situation in and city. Someone posted a video earlier on of the situation with someone running on stage and slamming Plies. That literally can happen to anyone and anywhere. And that's what happens when you slip up. Imagine that was in Tallahassee where the streets are paved in gold for him. You'll be dead quick trying to prove yourself to every knucklehead. Plies did not "run" away. But security escorted him away. The Dream was panicking but he's that type of person anyway. However, anybody feels about it is cool. But our objective is one thing.

I will say, this is a situation that Plies caused. We were scheduled to do a West Coast promo run the week after we dropped Definition of Real. First stop was San Diego. It was around 5:30am, I have all my bags packed and I'm about 10 minutes from jumping in the car to head to the airport and he calls me and says "Bro we not going. Them crackers playing games", meaning Atlantic. I'm like bro, it's promo tour to promote our album no one is playing games! We go back and forth for like 10 minutes and he won't budge and we miss our flight. I have to play damage control with Atlantic but the biggest issue here is we just blew off all the West Coast radio stations and mom and pop record stores where we were going to do autograph signings. And these are all community establishments and this is Cali of course, so there is almost always a gang element associated with any of that.

Well fast forward 3 weeks. We had did "Nasty Girl" for Luda and he had a gap between shooting one of the Fast and Furious movies and was only available to shoot his video in LA. We were also having scheduling conflicts with Jamie (Jamie had finished shooting Jarhead when he did our record so also had movie-related commitments) and The Dream to shoot our video for Please Excuse My Hands. The only date we could squeeze this in was that window and it had to be LA. Plies hates flights over 3 hours and he hates being away from his son for more than 4 days...he is actually a very involved father. So we had to make that work.

Well, you still essentially disrespected a community and that was really why they showed. Don't know who or how many of those local spots had people that felt some type of way, but they really in this case had a right to.

However, at no point are we putting Plies at risk or in harms way to prove who knows what to who knows who. He is a father and a provider and a couple dozen people's financial well-being depend on that.

So Jamie got his little chuckles from his interview. Plies never says a word because he never responds to anything anyone says, because he honestly doesn't care. That's basically the gist of what occurred.

Figured I'd circle back around on this one. Just got done wrapping this up this week (i.e. "Stressin"). Kodak dropped his new single yesterday, which sampled.

Im also a fan of Kodak's lil homie ou tof Pompano...LOE SHIMMY he has a different flow/cadence than anyone currently out the state.

Kodak stated he was heavily influenced by Plies.....Plies n the Hotboys u can really hear when he is in his pocket and some Lil Boosie. I could tell he was the kid that listened to whatever his older bro was.

Kodak is definitely a child of Plies musically. When he went on IG Live a few weeks back reaching out to Plies, I knew it would be for one of these types of records. I got the email during the week for the clearances and was amped!

This is EXACTLY what I always had envisioned for this record too, no disrespect to Ace Hood. The pain/authenticity of Yak comes through vividly. This is going to be a new street classic and may get some significant burn at radio...it is also a record Kodak himself is officially passionate about, which gives it more momentum
