http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/tag/_/name/2013-bowl-best-worst-011014Worst stat: 0-11. Miami got embarrassed by Louisville, 36-9, in the Russell Athletic Bowl. Maybe worse than that final score was the 0-fer the Hurricanes posted on third downs.

Worst bowl game: Russell Athletic Bowl. The Hyundai Sun Bowl had the most lopsided score of ACC bowl season, but the Russell Athletic Bowl is the choice here. This was one of the most anticipated non-BCS games on the schedule, but this was never really a game. Miami looked unmotivated despite waiting two years for a shot at a bowl game and allowed Teddy Bridgewater to throw for 447 yards and three touchdowns.

you know why i love college football? this season is zero indication what next season will be like.

what goes up must come down and whats down will come up. we depended way too much on big play makers (Duke, Dorsette, Morris when he was clutch, etc) vs out-smarting the other team and winning the game by coaching.

this has become a cliche in college football but "winning solves everything"

I agree, but all you have is hope that the D gets fixed. We haven't seen any tangible evidence that it will. All indicators is this D will be worse if Dorito is still here next year.

Yes, expect 6 wins next season...

It wasn't the worst bowl to attend, not with the packed house on the Canes side. The pregame atmosphere was everything a bowl should be, with both sides well represented and confident. I enjoyed watching all the Louisville fans sweating out their basketball game at Kentucky, which started a couple of hours before the football game. The three parachuting military men landing on the field prior to kickoff was also a nice touch. A nearby family with lots of kids really got a kick out of that.

I don't agree that we were unmotivated as much as overmatched. Right now we can't afford to play a one-loss team with a quarterback who may be picked first in the draft, and with the statistically third ranked defense in the country.

When the usher asked to check my ticket, he wished me good luck based on my Canes gear. I told him I was rooting for Miami but bet on Louisville. He laughed and said he never heard of such a thing. But he remembered it at game's end when I departed. "I don't know if I should congratulate you or not."

I didn't think we were unmotivated, just thought we were out-coached and Teddy played with no remorse like a Tom Brady.

Staff lost the team after the FSU game. VT showed that. We see that our game plans and adjustment our not on the level of our competition, certainly the players see that too. I think the players legitimately like Golden, but have lost confidence in the staff. Al has a serious problem and does not seem able to admit it. I believe he has given it his all and the staff has worked very hard. So have the players. We are missing some talent no doubt, but it is not just on the field. We are short on talent on the sideline, coach's box, film room, and grey matter.

We are stuck with Al and, now he is stuck with us. The bloom is off his rose and Mark is an anchor around his neck for all future jobs. If he cannot remake himself, the next two years are going to be very painful for us and put an end to his HC career. He will be a position coach after this, if he can not up his game and make the changes great coaches do.

Hard work is a admirable trait, but only goes so far against brains and talent. Al needs to take himself and staff to coaching school and learn how and what to teach these kids and to get some NEW ideas to add to his continuity plan. The only player we have that could play on one of our old teams is Duke, and he came that way. He hasn't been improved by the staff. Since Al isn't changing any staff, he better find a way to improve the ones he has and they already work hard, so that is not the answer.

I would say the staff lost the team after VT. Every time something good was about to happen, another turnover would occur. It is this game, where the kids just said **** it.

update: I give up! I am officially de-committing from my statement and committing to this one "Miami will play in a football game next year go canes!"

lets put it this way, it is very much possible that our D can be a top 5 D next year.. before you start bashing let me explain, College football is not like the NFL, only very few teams perform as expected and sometimes all the stars align. (Perryman has a 1st round type of season, Tracy KILLS it, AQM and Tyrique become a terrors, Chic finally decides to put in major work, Valentine comes back in and day 1 starts to contribute, etc etc)

my point is expect anything and that is why you can't just say oh we sucked this year so next year its not going to get better.... or it can be complete opposite and we lose 8 games.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but us fielding a top 5 D next season is not realistic. I'd be happy with some measure of improvement along the line of scrimmage and better tackling. Baby steps...

DP drops a few pounds to regain his mobility and is not asked to cover slot WRs, Tracy is allowed to play press more often as opposed to off man, AQM and Tyriq are playing more than just the predictable outside rush only on 3rd downs, Chick gets the green light from staff to lose weight to regain his mobility, and Valentine has a heart to heart with AG about why both thought they wanted to see other peoplet(LSU/PSU)

my point is expect anything and that is why you can't just say oh we sucked this year so next year its not going to get better.... or it can be complete opposite and we lose 8 games.

Generally speaking you're correct, but three seasons of Ohnofrio and I think we all have a pretty solid idea of what next season will be like.

As well, we now need to expect to have all-star recruiting classes overcome coaching ignorance, idiocy, and lack of competence.

Anyone that thinks that if Ohnofrio stays that the D will be competent next season and play to the level of its talent is equally naive and ignorant.

One season, yes perhaps, but we have a trend and pattern here.

In hindsight, look at the teams that Temple held in check defensively while Golden/Ohno were at the helm, all bottom-dwelling offensive teams from secondary conferences, if not tertiary conferences of FCS schools.

The writing's on the wall, Golden's going to lose the players and ultimately his own respect if he doesn't axe Ohnofrio. With each passing day it becomes a day too late.

Amen, Roger, and hear hear!

They also were overrated at Temple. So tack on those four seasons too. Or was it five.

Golden may just be in Peter Principle mode.

Either way, this offseason, and the clock is ticking, becomes where the rubber meets the road on talk vs. walk. He can't continue to talk bout building this program while keeping a leg-iron like Ohnofrio around.

It's either that he has credibility or all he's done is create a jobs program at The U, for which a strong argument can then be made that he's regressed the program.

Guess who is going to be here next year.
