Pretty sure once you sign that LOI you have to sit out a year before playing at another D1 school unless there is some crazy hardship where the ncaa will give you a waiver. I'm not sure that getting kicked out changes that.

Didn't Seantrel Henderson sign with USC and then get released and was able to play at Miami that year? Now, I don't know if getting kicked off them team is that same as being released from your LOI, especially since he had already enrolled, but I do think you can play immediately at another school after signing a LOI if you are released.

That was different because of SC's sanctions. Freshmen and Sophomores were given free releases.

According to one of the articles I linked above, it said the NCAA overlords only allow juniors and seniors to transfer without penalty if a school is put on probation.

Yeah, pretty sure it was Lane and the AD that ok'd the release, not the NCAA.

That's how I remember it. It was a university decision.

I'd be very surprised if Golden took a kid that was kicked of another team, I guess we'll see.

If I recall correctly, I believe the kid has to actually matriculate at the University. I believe the language is (or was) related to the first day of classes. Maybe if this kid hasnt attended any classes yet, there is a chance he wont have to seek a release from the Nebraska coach/AD. I think he still has to sit out a semester instead of a full year, so I do not think he'll be eligible for this season but I do think he can transfer and start on scholarship in the spring without having to get the blessing of the NU coach. I could be wrong but that's my understanding from back in the day.

Wasn't he in Nebraska when he hit his teammate over his head with a bottle? Doubt he went there this summer to shuck corn

This is correct, only Juniors and Seniors were released by NCAA due to Two year bowl ban.

If a kid is dismissed from a Div. 1A team are they allowed to resign and play some where else in the same year?

The kid signed with The Bugeaters in January of this year for the 2013 class.....

yes as they broke the LOI and have control of it.

I think you can invoke the 'beer bottle" exception to get immediate eligibility. It's a little known provision in the NCAA rules.

USC was on probation so he received a free pass transfer.
