Just talked to my boy Ernest Suttles. He's gonna be playing at Miami! #TheU #Canes He's blessed to have the opportunity to play again!

OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska freshman defensive end Ernest Suttles has been kicked off the team after being ticketed for misdemeanor assault for allegedly striking linebacker David Santos in the head with a bottle at a party last week.

Coach Bo Pelini announced the dismissals of Suttles and linebacker Thomas Brown on Thursday night. Pelini did not give a reason in a statement released by the athletic department. Lincoln Police Capt. Danny Reitan said there was no record of Brown being connected to the alleged assault.

Suttles, from Tampa., Fla., was a highly regarded recruit. Pelini had said in February that Suttles had a chance to be an immediate contributor.

Reitan said a fight broke out during a party at a residence last Friday and that Suttles struck Santos in the forehead with a bottle. Reitan told the Omaha World-Herald that Santos sought medical treatment. Suttles was ticketed Wednesday.

The university's athletic department said in a statement it was "aware of an incident involving student-athletes which occurred off campus over the weekend." The athletic department said it was working with the university's Dean of Students to gather details.

Suttles starred at Gaither High School in Tampa, with 31 of his 88 tackles for loss. He was ranked among the top 100 high school players in Florida and chose the Huskers over Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and West Virginia.

Brown, from Gardena, Calif., was to be a redshirt freshman this season. He was expected to contend for playing time at linebacker and was ranked among the top 75 prospects in California in 2012.

If he's eligible for this season that's huge. Golden has this on lock. He knows how to build a team. Trust the tie.

I'll say it again, what Golden has done to replenish this roster after NLOI day is eye-opening.

this is a 24/7/365 operation with him...

If a kid is dismissed from a Div. 1A team are they allowed to resign and play some where else in the same year?

The kid signed with The Bugeaters in January of this year for the 2013 class.....

This kid's highlights are pretty impressive. In high school he looked like a man playing against 14 year olds. Just disruptive, and not just physically, but football IQ wise as well. He's blowing around tackles, blowing up guards and centers as a dt, blocking kicks, causing fumbles, and chasing down running backs.
As I said, pretty **** impressive.
Looks like he was an EE. Anyone know his measurables? In high school the film said 6'5" 235lbs. Hopefully he is up to 250+.

Amazing.

Do I dare come out of my NCAA shell and say these moves are no coincidence?

If he was an EE that means he got started with Nebraska's off-season program which is definitely a good thing.

I'm just guessing here, but if he got dismissed from Nebraska that probably counts as a full release and he won't have to sit out this season. Now, he may redshirt to develop but I don't think he has to sit out this season.

SERIOUSLY!!!

I am consistently amazed at how good coach Golden and his staff have been to replenish the roster. Dude has pulled more rabbits out of random hats than every migician in history combined. lol

Pretty sure once you sign that LOI you have to sit out a year before playing at another D1 school unless there is some crazy hardship where the ncaa will give you a waiver. I'm not sure that getting kicked out changes that.

this is the guy that took one for us

Posted this in recruiting thread...

Kid is a Terror at the DE spot, plays standing up and inside. Looks like a prototype for what we want to do on defense. Did we ever try to get him last cycle?

Anyway sign this kid up, he gets a second chance and if he screws it up its on him. With the way our Dline is we need to get on one of those lucky streaks that D$ talked about recently. Combine him, with AQM (hopefully) and Chad and in a year or so we dont combine for like 4 sacks between our starting ends. Kid causes a ton of fumbles too.

Did he enroll at Nebraska? Would he be able to play this year for us or have to sit out? Also I wonder how his release will work since we play Nebraska I think next year...

If I recall correctly, I believe the kid has to actually matriculate at the University. I believe the language is (or was) related to the first day of classes. Maybe if this kid hasnt attended any classes yet, there is a chance he wont have to seek a release from the Nebraska coach/AD. I think he still has to sit out a semester instead of a full year, so I do not think he'll be eligible for this season but I do think he can transfer and start on scholarship in the spring without having to get the blessing of the NU coach. I could be wrong but that's my understanding from back in the day.
