Moreover, I question why people keep saying Lofton is “physically limited.” Is it just because he’s 6’1? He tests well, he’s strong as an ox, and he’s coordinated with the ball in the air. That’s like saying Odom (who I love) is physically limited because he lacks explosive strength.

Lofton isn’t Daniel Calhoun or Kyle Cobia. He is a great athlete, a four-star, and can do multiple things athletically.

He's a take all day for me. He doesn't have ideal size, but we have those guys. But he's versatile, he can block inline and outside on screens, he can take inside handoffs, he can go in motion in an H-back role, he can protect the QB on 3rd down instead of a RB. He looked quick on tape running guys down after turnovers. I'd like to know more about his testing numbers but the talent is there, the HS is one that produces talent so it's never a bad thing, and he's not just like every other player at the position. He's different.....but in a good way.

If Mario needs help, there's a guy right down the road coaching the Phins who knows how to use H-Backs.

Sark likes him bc Sark is creative at getting guys the ball. What he did with Devonta Smith at Bama was a clinic.

Deebo was a 5'11 180lb WR coming out of HS.

Elijah is a 6'2 220lb TE/HB

What are you comparing? Am I in the wrong recruit thread? Does Deebo actually have a son were recruiting and you mistakenly posted in this thread?

Because our fan base has always been enamored with 40 times, wide outs and pass catching TEs…blocking ain’t a pretty ESPN top 10 play of the day business…unless you played the game and had the dirty work done for you to get you in the end zone.

This kid looks versatile as **** to me if they are going to go with a more prototypical size pure TE with the second spot.

sorry to trigger you guy. yes bit of a stretch but Deebo Samuel was every bit of 200lbs his senior yr i dont care what he was listed at and also played HB/TB not just WR. Elija is what, maybe 215 6'2 and fast af. hes no traditional TE thats for sure, so no telling where he ends up lining up at

Lol quick trigger to use the word triggered is see. I was clearly making jokes and having some fun in my response, in reality, I dont care about your scouting abilities enough (at all) to be triggered. I just found it so crazy I did a double take.

As far as the facts you presented.

1. Deebo was listed at 192lbs as a freshman at SC. Therefore, unless you're about to claim he went on a diet his freshman summer season, you're wrong. He was not every bit of 200lbs as a senior.

2. Elijah, is listed at 220lbs right now as a junior. For whatever reason you decided to shave off 5lbs from that. He will likely play his senior season at 225lbs and come into UM at 230lbs. By his senior season, he is going to be 240-250 lbs.

3. Just from a video standpoint, Elija is much more physical and does not have the acceleration that Deebo has.

I would be curious to know what you actually see as a comparison here, but you seem pretty sensitive based off thinking I was triggered. So its all good brother, they look like clones to me too, we can move on lol.

the comparison is how he plays the game not their exact heights and weights. straight football players,
one is 6'1 215 the other is 6' 215
both played multiple positions including HB in HS
we have been told Elija "will play a funky role" because hes much more athletic than people think and that "he can really run".
watch the tape you cant put a label on a guy Elija like just a TE on. Hes a a Football player. a gamer that will play multiple positions and thats what we are hearing from the insiders. so ill take him.

I love dudes like this, always have. Kyle Alphabet from the 49ers is the type of Swiss Army knife you’d love to see us figure out a way to use.

Someone else said it but a guy like this basically boils down to: take if we actually have a smart OC that can gameplan for him correctly, pass if we’re just going to waste him by trying to turn him into a classic tight end. I actually liked what we did with Brantley last year in glimpses, and this is essentially Brantley but way better testing.
 
For you old school Canes out there this kid reminds me a bit of Jason Geathers. Jason could carry the ball, play receiver and block. Jason was all over the field making plays but never had a true position. Lofton has all these traits and his versatility and toughness will be a nice add to our offense. I questioned why we were going after this kid but after watching the film he can provide a lot of value and love the possible take.
