Elephant in the WR Room

🗣️We Got Kevin Beard!
The kids will be ready, lots of highly recruited talent in the room. I wonder how programs operated before the portal?
KB knows!

We will add talent there. Beck will help.

I expect big things from Lofton and Trader. They had veterans in front of them, but they showed in the bowl game they can handle more.
Thoughts on Carr? I always thought he’d be great in the slot

I usually agree with you but not here on Lofton. He has more YAC ability than I think you’re giving him credit for. That’s the RB in him.

Sure, he is a natural runner and once the ball is in his hands and he has some space, he can get some extra yards. But, he’s 6’, 250 and not a blazer so his yac are much more limited than say arroyo. I really like the kid, though, I just think he’s limited physically.

Lofton can run he ain’t just some possession guy. What’s stopping trader from balling next year?

Not sure I agree with your Lofton assessment. As for trader, s&c is a big one and it will be his first year playing, basically, since he’s coming off injury. “Balling” is a relative term. Can he do some things? Yeah. Is he a WR2? No. He’s a wr3/wr4 at this point. Eventually he does have the chance to be wr1 but not yet imo.

They didn’t sniff the field because they had 4 older guys ahead of them. That’s not the case this year. You got to play these guys at some point. Never gone get better just sitting on the sideline because you bringing transfers in

Fair point and I’ve been critical of bears of not playing the young guys more. Let’s see how the rotation unfolds next summer

Nobody has put together a hit list yet for this WR? A top 5 realistic candidate?

Even if someone put it together, the fans wouldn’t believe them. Furthermore, if Miami went 0 for 5 the cis world would ban them.

Personally- I wouldn’t be shocked to see a whale or two land at Miami by May. I personally wanted the GT kid and the Texas A&M kid but the names im hearing are just as good if not better.

Just wait and know Miami I’ll spend $$ to surround Beck.

Georgia WRs led the nation in drops with 36. They dropped 9.4% of passes.

Have to think they told Beck that he wouldn't be in that position again.

You can’t say no because you don’t know that lol. You don’t know what he is going to do. And go put on the bowl game. Lofton can run

Probably need to add two. Pure slot and a WR1.
If Toney can make the physical adjustment. I like him there. Unless Ny Carr is our new slot. Supposedly Toney runs great routes and we’ve seen Freshman WR breakout every year.

If you are comparing his ability to run to arroyo, please don’t. Can he run? Sure, but he isn’t a game breaker like arroyo was. Whatever, we’re splitting hairs bc I’m sure he can be a productive guy - just not the game breaker that some may think. It’s all good - lgc

How many TEs in cfb or the nfl can run like arroyo? lol cmon man. That doesn’t change the fact the guy can run and can definitely make big plays in the college game

The more I think about what you said, you might be right. Arroyo did 35-590 and he’s arguably one of the top TEs in the country so 400-500 might be fair for Elijah.

That’s all I’m trying to say. Just managing expectations for a TE1 that is not nearly as gifted athletically as our last TE1. I have no doubt lofton can be a good player for us next year. I also think we’re all splitting hairs.

There’s a strong likelihood we add another vet receiver through the portal in spring. That said, it’s college football. It’s impossible to be experienced at every single position. At some point you have to let young guys (who we all wanted as recruits) compete for snaps.

It’s okay. The 2001 team didn’t have a wide receiver with more than 12 catches the prior season. One of our starting receivers was literally the backup quarterback the year prior. If we want to believe that Trader, Carr, Robinson and Joseph are players, we gotta give them the chance to compete.

I think it’s a pretty unique situation now that all of our WR spots are open. We will see that more and more with the transfer portal.

Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing what Trader and Carr can do this season. I don’t remember our wideouts having a ton of drops this year and hope that continues into next.
