VIP Scoop: Latest On Henderson & Edwards
Andrew Ivins - 15 minutes ago VIP2
With National Signing Day less than three days away two of the biggest remaining targets on the board for Miami heading Wednesday are Miami Columbus Top247 cornerback Christopher Henderson and Miramar three-star defensive back Brian Edwards.
Both Henderson and Edwards were at one time previously committed to the Hurricanes, and while they continue to express plenty of interest in the local program, they also continue to talk with other schools.
InsideTheU has the latest.
— Miami was hoping that Christopher Henderson would make it to campus on Sunday for an unofficial visit after he returned from the U-19 North American Championship in Orlando, but that trip never happened. While some might view that as a negative, the Hurricanes feel as if they have done everything they can to land a signature from the Under Armour All-American. Henderson not only took an unofficial visit two weeks ago to Coral Gables to hang out with former Miami standout and current Chicago Bears safety Deon Bush, but the Hurricanes also sent head coach Mark Richt in-home to meet with Henderson's father on Tuesday. Florida remains very much involved in the recruitment, but at this point it seems as if Miami has the most traction with the family. Alabama was also considered a player at one point in the process, but the Crimson Tide now appear to have set their sights on other defensive back targets. This one will come down to relationships and multiple people close to Henderson think that he knows the Hurricanes the best.
— Brian Edwards spent this past weekend at Florida. The trip to Gainesville marked the first time he had been on campus at UF since early June when he camped and earned an offer from the Gators. While that's a bit of a telling sign about his relationship (or the lack of one) with the folks at Florida, the word out of Edwards' camp early Monday is that the SEC school has given the lengthy defensive back plenty to think about. Edwards enjoyed everything about his time at UF and was able to bring his mother with him on the visit which is a bit of a key factor in this recruitment. Miami feels as if they have already won mom over and when she wasn't able to travel to Louisville earlier this month it was considered a bit of a win for the Hurricanes. Now with mom having seen Florida and what the school offers student-athletes, it's unclear at the time where she's leaning, but multiple people tied to Edwards have said that she still wants her son close to home at Miami. Edwards isn't expected to do much if any media interviews between now and Wednesday as he tries to process everything that he has heard the past few weeks. The latest intel however suggests that Miami is the pick, but there's some concerns out there about Florida getting the last face-to-face meeting with Edwards given the fact that he's a very impressionable kid.
