Ed Reed wants to coach once he is done with football

Yeah, just like Dorsey, definitely needs to start at the bottom and work his way up. Can't imagine he is ready to coach a college secondary.

I'd hire him as a DB coach as Miami as soon as he retires. Assuming his heart was really into coaching. I'm fairly confident one of the best defenders of all time can teach college kids how to play DB pretty well.

I'm also pretty sure he'd be able to sell kids on playing for The U.

Could you point out all of the superstar players that jumped right into D-1 coaching at their alma mater and were successful? Thanks.

Could you point out any that went this route that were not successful? Thanks.

Yeah. After all, he has no experience with leading secondarys. Would probably need a few years just to understand the finer points of college secondarys.

Williams is too good as our current DB coach

// offer Mr. Reed defensive coordinator

You hire ed reed right away.

Ohio state hired mike vrabel as d-line coach as soon as he retired from the nfl in 2011.

He has become a great recruiter and is coaching guys up.

You don't think ed reed can coach up the secondary and get those 4 & 5 star Dbs you are ****** crazy.

Some of our fans are okay with mediocrity. They were okay with the bend but don't break D and playing prevent up a TD or two.

The NFL can stick him in a "defensive assistant" role or a "player development" role where he isn't displacing a full time position coach. They can also agree to some semblance of normal hours for him.

Unless he either:

A) Wants to start as a GA
B) Is ready to work 100 hours a week, hit the unglamorous recruiting trail, all for $175k a year as a DB coach.

And honestly, I am not sure he's ready for B. He hasn't coached. Look at Barrow's path after 12 years or so in the NFL... He started at Homestead HIGH SCHOOL, then finally UM. He paid his dues at the HS level, the same as many do at a D1-AA or D2 school before a top BCS program. That's a normal path. Very risky to give a guy his first gig at this level. What if the hours and pressure aren't for him? Disaster.

Ed Reed should coach HS for year and waste his time when he could coaching our secondary :ohlord:

No, because no university runs its athletic program the way our fans would. I also can't show you that using an offensive lineman on punt returns is unsuccessful, because no one has been dumb enough to try it. Doesn't mean it's a good idea and that we should be the trendsetters and go for it.

Could you point out all of the superstar players that jumped right into D-1 coaching at their alma mater and failed? Thanks.

No, because no one else on the planet thinks it's a good idea except our fans.

I think we should only recruit in Aruba. You don't agree? Show me the teams that have been unsuccessful doing that. That's how nonsensical your challenge is.

Urban Meyer or Tressell thought it was a good idea to hire Vrabel right away but he is a bad coach

Applewhite started as a GA, then made stops at Syracuse and Rice, then finally landed at his alma mater in his 7th year of coaching. Klingsbury started at Houston, not Texas Tech. Josh Heupel also started as a GA. Those last two guys had Danny Weurfell-like NFL careers, so they are a little different to begin with.

Rod woodson another legendary ball hawk became a DB coach in the NFL for the raiders, i dont believe he had any formal coaching training or "paying dues" besides being a network analysts before he did it either, so there's an example of some one at least being given a shot on the college level- vrabel, and pro-woodson. how they fared? i dont know, talk to the fans of the buckeyes or raiders and see? at least using them as examples you cant say it would be ridiculous to give ed a shot if he wanted it and the opportunity is there

Another good example. But apparently that one didn't go so well:

The Raiders hired Woodson as their cornerbacks coach on February 14, 2011. He was not retained following the 2011 season. On June 12, 2013 the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that Woodson would be serving as a coaching intern through the teams 2013 training camp.

not being retained doesnt mean he was a bad coach though the raiders change coaches like the weather too so not surprising if someone came in and wanted an entirely new staff, im not surprised the steelers would have him go that route though as they usually have a top notch staff i wouldnt expect him to supplant someone in pittsburgh
