Yes sir!!!! Great play by Lala throwing out the runner at 3rd!!!
There was no joke, never mind. Ps, Canes win.You missed the joke. Calm down.
Uh, no fella, way wrongAwful. Runners are taught to go before the ball even hits the dirt. They just made a great play. It happens.
HE WASN'T STEALING THE BASE FOR **** 1000TH TIME!!! HE SAW THE PITCH DOWN IN THE DIRT AND TRIED TO TAKE 2ND!! GOT THROEN OUT!!!It works on every level. Stealing bases is all about technique and the jump you get. If you don’t waste any steps on your get off, perfect crossover etc. and get a good jump you will never be thrown out when a catcher goes to his knees outside, of Yadi in his prime. The best base stealers are normally not the fastest, of course there are guys like Billy Hamilton who are both. Kid made a play, it happens. Hats off to Gates for trying to make something happen when we were dead
Geez , this guy thinks its pre wee ball. Oh yeah he coaches select ball.Good grief, you break when you see that the pitch is spiked. BEFORE it hits the ground. You teach every single runner to do that.

Guys that steal bases will see a pitch is going to be in the dirt. They have the speed to take a base because the catcher is going to block the ball 9/10 times. They are fast enough to take the base before the catcher can retrieve the ball and throw. Everyone else must see the ball get far enough away from the catcher. It's not a steal. It's advancing on a wild pitch. Gates was not stealing. He was trying to make a play that Lala, Jenkins or Zamora would make. He's not that dude. Needs to stay in his lane. Then why are you saying you run before the ball hits the ground? That's not the case for everyone. In fact it's only for a few and Gates isn't one of them. Basically, only the guys that steal bases.
That's why he got thrown out. The only guys that SHOULD do it are the ones that steal bases because they will take the base even if the catcher makes a play.Nobody said he was. It’s the same concept. It’s about your jump. We aren’t talking about Toral here. Gates is plenty athletic to do that
Yep, the negativity of several posters gets real old.It is a good thing the team played the game woth "no urgency". Have to laugh at some of the posts on here during the game.

Great win.
I played D-1 baseball. Ah, no. Only for certain dudes. Maybe Gates thinks he's that guy. I don't see it. If that were the case, he would have been safe. Even our announcers said Gates needed to make sure the ball got far enough away. So, they know Gates made a play that he shouldn't have.As long as you aren’t Toral slow you can take second on a ball in the dirt if the catcher goes to his knees to block it, if you get a good read on it.
Maybe the team you played for hit 1000 Home runs a year or had guys that ran either 6.2s and under or 8.0s and higher, so you had restrictions. But most college programs operate the way Gates handled it. Some guys might have to see it get away but the majority do not
