This is a case of the media being lazy. Nothing easier than to pick the previous season winner and call it a night.

2. Miami – The loss of starting quarterback Ryan Williams will be made less severe by the presence of star running back Duke Johnson and a veteran offensive line. Set to return seven starters from a unit which finished 13th in the ACC in total defense, the Miami defense should be significantly improved this fall.

how does this make sense?

we sucked last year and return those same sucky players and our defense improves?

I agree 100%. Duke was a good team and they return most of the guys who made them good. No reason to think they'll revert to being your father's Duke team out of nowhere.

Right we shouldn't expect Duke to suck. They return a good chunk of their players.
However were people go wrong is to think that what Duke did last year wasnt their ceiling. It was. Not so with other teams like Miami, VT and UNC which have a higher ceiling, especially Miami.

Maybe because they think it can't get much worse since there is only 14 teams in the ACC.

This is pretty much it right here.

Or, maybe it's the media saying from staff to players, Duke is the best team in the Coastal.

David Cutcliffe is a **** good coach and he will be a thorn in our side for a while now.

Look at where Stanford was 12 years ago until now, all it takes is a good coach and some consistency and you can start putting together a real good program.

Very dangerous future ahead with that program, especially with Cutcliffe signing a long extension.

The problems with this porst:

1. Cutcliffe has won 10 games and bowl games

2. Golden has never won 10 games and has never won a bowl game

3. Cutcliffe does more with less

4. Golden does less with more

Cutcliffe has had many years at duke? And golden is entering year 4.. go look up what cutcliffe was doing at duke in season 4 or 5 for that matter.. everything worked out for duke last year.. i don't think they win the coastal this year.

I know we are bleeding recruits left and right but we still outrecruited Duke in football for the past millenium. so you can't compare cutcliffe at year 4 with Golden's year 4.

I think Duke football had a season like our basketball team did a few years ago.

Maybe it's because most players improve from year to year. I expect us to be much better on defense this year. No excuse will do for me. If we don't dramatically improve, I'll max out my credit cards at Tar & Feather Depot.
