Duke Highlights--Can't stop watching

I am not seeing all the rushing yards you cats see. Im thinking 1100 is a realistic number. He isnt gonna be a 20-25 carries a game back. He will get that many touches but not carries. He is a stud out there but I think your expectations are a tad high.

Its the schedule really. He's going to get fat on some **** *** teams this year but I agree, 1400 yards is lofty but not out of reach.

If healthy, I think I'm undershooting it. The team absolutely needs someone to eat up 225 or more carries.

I'm with you, as its hard for me really to conclude anything since I know jack **** about James Coley.

I'm just sitting here trying to imagine what that kid can do on the field with another 15+ lbs on his frame.

I mean, if you said he would rush for 2,000 yards I might laugh but then say "well...maybe"

People forget that the reason for the low number of rush attempts last year is because the defense never made any stops and had low turnover numbers. The offense had fewer times to control the ball and had to toss it around the yard to score quick fast and in a hurry.

If the defense has 50% more stops and turnovers which is manageable Duke could have 1500 yards rushing this year. The kid is a threat to score from anywhere on the field every time he touches the ball.

While it's true we seemingly chose to play that style when, early in the season or even fall camp, we realized we didn't have defense, there were still opportunities. Basic proof? Look at our playcalls inside the redzone last year.

Golden chose to play that style. He stated several times he decided against protecting the defense. He wasn't going to hold back the offense because of how bad the defense was. Playcalling falls on Fisch. If Fisch identity was and is to throw the ball then we played to an identity. One you didn't particularly like. Its been reported that we'll still be uptempo no-huddle under Coley. What that means for the run game will show itself over the season.

Golden choosing to play a certain style to give us the best chance to win is one thing. Running the ball effectively when we had the chance to control the game doesn't contradict that (giving us the best chance to win). Like I said, just look at our redzone playcalling. We were an edge team.

We'll see what we are this year.

Clearly your opinion differs from our former OC. His play calling suggested that our best chance to win was to throw the ball in situations others might believe running the ball would be more prudent and to play to that identity more often than not.

I think it cost us the Virginia game. Couldn't believe we didn't run the ball to run out the clock. Threw those pass plays and put the defense right back on the field. Got a little to cute at times when we needed to just pound the rock.

I can't wait for the season, Duke and Morris are going to have big years.

Lu what are your expectations for Duke this year

Impossible to say without knowing what the heck Coley is going to do. FSU rushed the ball 513x last year. EJ Manuel had 20% of that workload, though. I don't think Morris will get a similar amount. Lonnie Pryor grabbed like 10% or so of that. I don't think Hagens is as good, but I can see him grabbing 30-40? I think we'll try to rush the ball over 400x this year. Not sure who, of the RBs, can step up.

I can see Duke getting something like 240 carries for about 1400+ yards and 15 TDs. I can see him catching 35 balls for 300 yards or so and 2 TDs. Reduced KOR touches.

Coley didn't have Morris and friends for a passing game at wide right. Still, nothing wrong with putting ball in Duke's hands as many times as you can. Have no inerest in watching Morris use his feet when his arm is so much better. All that said, I think Duke takes down all the records for running backs at THE U. That is a mouthfull, but he just looks that good. In addition to that lance he calls a stiff arm, it seems to me that no matter what or how many moves he put on defenders, he is ALWAYS heading downfield. They never get a second shot at him. And to top it all off, around the goal line he plays like he is about 240lbs--loves that paydirt like no one I can remember. I assume staff will limit his kickoff returns, expecially with Artie coming on board. Although, you got to believe everyone will be kickng away from him anyway. If Burns is the alterantive, that might prove to be a very costly choice.

I don't see Crawford getting alot of carries.
I see Crawford being utilized on Wr Screens, RB Screens and Wildcat formation type plays

Yes, my opinion on how to form an offensive identity differs from our former OC. He's an NFL OC. I'm a message board poster. However, this is a message board.

Wasn't an attack, just an observation.

I'm amazed every time I watch his highlights when he see's a hole he shifts into another gear and just takes off.
Don't know that I've ever looked more forward to seeing a guy play than I do him.

I didn't take it as an attack. Tone isn't coming across well, I suppose. Just noting I really didn't agree with how Fisch structured an offense. Guy was smart and talented, but I felt we missed some opportunities to make it easier on ourselves last year (NC State game, Virginia game, GT game). All of that is only important, in my eyes, because I have no clue what to expect from Coley. Gameday play calls are one of the biggest unknowns this upcoming season.
