The Ole Miss DT recruit thing was an embarrassment last year. Guys kept coming off the board and the kid kept dragging his feet.

Turned out to be a jag, but that’s not a good look.

Yeah Mario can’t sit around like he did the last two years. Either they commit or you move on quickly. This ain’t years of high school recruiting.

I have said it before, but I don't think the warp speed nature of the portal suits Mario's strengths. He seems to like to take his time on evaluations while also putting in the work to establish real, personal relationships with recruits. Harder to do both in the portal.

That said, from what I've heard, Mario and the staff evolved and started doing evaluations on potential portal entrants in advance of the portal opening this year so they could have a much better idea of their "board" at multiple positions. The best thing I will say about Mario is he's not afraid of work (especially when it comes to talent acquisition).
