IMO it would have to be Butch, he's what I would consider a "home run", and would stop any bleeding.
He's 62. That is not a long term hire.
So what...our history is not longtime hires

5 years out of Butch would be perfect

Will be Coley

So. He could give you 5 great years and leave the cupboard stacked with ELITE so fla players. Then do what any smart school would do and find a coach in waiting or have someone in mind being groomed for the day butch leaves
5 years?
He's 2 years younger than my parents. They were both v. successful professionals enjoying their retirement - they've both said that they don't have the energy or the drive of 10 years ago.
HC is one of the most taxing jobs I can think of. Hiring a guy in his 60s seems like madness to me.

No you are right! All Donna knows about him is that he was responsible for building the 2001 team, and he had some trouble at UNC. For all of those who don't know, Geroge O'Leary did a lot worse and had to build himself back up... Guess where he is at in that building process1 oh yeah beating one of the most dominant offenses this year in the Fiesta Bowl.
We need someone who can flat out recruit South Florida and someone who knows how to win. Butch Davis did that at UNC, took Miami guys and whooped us with them. He has a lot of talent coming in and he will be smart enough to keep Coley who can lead the recruiting efforts for a few years while he reestablishes himself and he will bring in a defensive mastermind, likely Schiano, and will go from there.
We need a guy who can improve to 10 or 11 wins next year and in a BCS bowl and get us ready for that BCS Bowl game. Butch is the only name I really see being realistic and all he needs is a chance! Man is proven! All of those questioning him should reconsider your allegiance to this Canes Family. Everyone is so quick to point out that he is the one responsible for the 2001 team, not Coker but now people are questioning him.
Oh and one more thing- you can get him at a very good contract price!
I think most schools only hire an interim head coach when a coach is fired or leaves during the season. Plus why would they want to be the interim head coach when there is a decent chance they would not be retained by the new staff

We've had about all the amateur HC's one university can stand.
Butch is a proven quality - one of those national championships is directly due to him, and except for a cheating-assed call, we'd have another national championship due to Butch.
Butch is the real deal. Guaranteed.
No guessing, no wondering.
Guaranteed not to bag, sag, tear, shear, wear, tear, or pull at the seams.
