Dont Be Surprised if Mike Barrow is named Interim Head Coach

Butch Davis isn't getting hired. Putting aside the perceived NCAA issues from North Carolina (which are probably a disqualifier in Shalala's eyes regardless of the level of Butch's involvement), when was the last "good" year he had as a head coach? 2000? Maybe 2002 with Cleveland? Hasn't won 10 or more games in a season since 2000. Has only coached 4 seasons in college since 2000. Only been a head coach for 8 years since 2000. He has done nothing since he left Miami to warrant being hired. Yet, he would be first choice. Makes sense. They better act quick too because it's either the Miami job for Butch or he's taking a greeter position at Wal Mart on Monday.

I have never been that impressed with Butch as pure coach, but I can think of about 40 good reasons to higher him--isn't that about the number of 1st round draft picks he recruited/

Then you can think of plenty of good reasons to keep golden. Golden is stacking talent whether everyone wants to see it or not

Coley will be out looking for a new job. Barrow is married to this program. No way Coley stays on IMO. He may get hired back, but he isn't going to hang around for a couple of weeks when he doesn't know if the future coach will keep him on.

After he left a successful program to come back home? I realize there were all those play calling issues people bring up, but it seemed pretty clear to me that he wanted to be back in South Florida.

I'm not hating, just pointing out that Coley won't be sitting on his hands for UM, when there are no assurances he'll be brought back back the new staff. He's trying to advance his career. Barrow is a UM lifer.....he isn't going anywhere. I bet he'll even get an opportunity to interview for the head job.

Not implying you were just have a different take--Coley will sit around to see if he is retained because he has a good shot at staying OC and living where he wants to live.

Kind of nice to have a reasonable disagreement on this board good sir.

unless i am wrong, donna wasnt here when butch left.

Correct, Donna started summer/fall of 2001 and butch departed december 2000/january 2001 although I don't remember exactly when the Donna hire was made official and if there was some transition period.

We've had about all the amateur HC's one university can stand.

Butch is a proven quality - one of those national championships is directly due to him, and except for a cheating-assed call, we'd have another national championship due to Butch.

Butch is the real deal. Guaranteed.

No guessing, no wondering.

Guaranteed not to bag, sag, tear, shear, wear, tear, or pull at the seams.

she was in clintons cabinet till bush was swore in in mid-jan so she missed him.

Former UM coach Butch Davis, who on Friday was not retained by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a special advisor to recently fired head coach Greg Schiano, told the Post he’d welcome the opportunity to interview with Miami should Golden leave. Davis, 62, was UM’s coach from 1995-2000 and previously was a UM assistant under Jimmy Johnson from 1984-88.

****, I just nutted in my shorts!

IMO it would have to be Butch, he's what I would consider a "home run", and would stop any bleeding.

He's 62. That is not a long term hire.

So. He could give you 5 great years and leave the cupboard stacked with ELITE so fla players. Then do what any smart school would do and find a coach in waiting or have someone in mind being groomed for the day butch leaves

5 years?

He's 2 years younger than my parents. They were both v. successful professionals enjoying their retirement - they've both said that they don't have the energy or the drive of 10 years ago.

HC is one of the most taxing jobs I can think of. Hiring a guy in his 60s seems like madness to me.

Snyder is doing fine as the coach at KSU

Hey. Why the **** wasn't this thread merged? Is it because of who posted it?

Yeah what was with all the merging? We need to make room on the first page for more threads about how the defense sucks?
The thread with the dude selling Orange Bowl tickets needed to stay on page 1. While all the threads regarding our head coach leaving get dumped into one cluster****. Except this one of course. A thread started by a pseudo-mod. Weak
