Absolutely love Jimmy Gaines. Has all the physical attributes, the football IQ, and the character to do big things.

Love the fact that this kid was a 2 star recruit out of Buffalo, and he has worked his way up to where he is now.

He embodies the work ethic and character that Golden has been instilling in this program since Day 1.

A true Cane.

He's the best defensive recruit from his entire class which is both cool, and pathetic. He's going to play a huge role this year especially since our LBs have had trouble staying healthy. I bet he turns some heads.

Its going to be a solid defense this year, I have no doubts.

Put me in the camp that is very concerned about coach D'Onofrio. He may be a guy who shows success because of the strength of recruiting but Im very concerned that he will continue his passive mindset. its simply who he is as a D-coordinator.

I never quite understood the passive label.

We threw a bunch of different looks out there. We struggled with everything.

There's not much you can do when the middle of your defense is totally compromised. We just weren't good at anything last year.

I don't really care what we run so long as we're stout against the run, and we get off the field on third downs.

Would also be nice if guys weren't running wide ******* open through the secondary half the time

It's the way the DL isn't allowed to penetrate. They're supposed to stand the OL up, read what's going on, then go make a play.

Compare that to a Shannon scheme where the DL is free to penetrate and cause havoc in the backfield.

Say what you want about Corch Duh, but that dude is the polar opposite of passive. Your second paragraph says it all.

We have the players and experience to have a top 50 scoring defense this year. Keep building this thing on the proper foundation. That's all I axe.

Hopefully any scrambling/running quarterback this year gets popped so hard he loses his will (or consciousness), vs gashing us for yards, and TDs in the red zone.

never understood why people act like the two aren't interrelated.

if you're not giving up a lot of yards, you're not giving up a lot of points. not unless the offense is getting a short field due to return yardage, turnovers by the offense, etc. on the flipside if you're giving up a lot of yards you're going to give up a lot of points unless the offense turns the ball over in the redzone/on the goaline or has a kicker that can't kick worth ****. the whole concept of valuing points over yards is stupid, they go hand in hand.

What's wrong with a two-gap scheme? Saban's been running it for over a decade.

That's not true... An opponent may have success moving the ball but no success scoring points once making it to the redzone. Coach D has been schooled in the Belichick and Parcells philosophy of defense so I'm pretty sure he knows more than any of you on the topic.

Golden and Coach D are schooled in the Belichick and Parcells philosophy of defense. It's not that complicated Nights...

I guess you can say that since Goldens worked under Groh.

Also, why should someone being skeptical of Goldens automatically make them a Shannon slurper?

It's well known Belichick and Parcells have mentored Golden and Coach D. And yes, Groh comes from that same tree so that is the defensive philosophy we run at Miami now. Skeptical of Golden? LOL! You're a Radio Charmin slurper which makes you a Radio Charmin slurper. It has nothing to do with your hate for Golden.

I mean if you can find proof of me being a randy slurper I'll back away. But until then, you're mentally retarded in my book because you literally think that anyone skeptical of Golden automatically loves Randy Shannon.
