D'onofrio Is The Key

1) Play man-to-man coverage the majority of the game with zone sprinkled in (not the other way around)
2) Play the 3rd down speed package of McCord/AQM/David Gilbert consistently on 1st and 2nd down
3) Spy Perryman on Gayness Winston on obvious passing downs and delay blitz when he has an opening
4) Go in with the mindset that FSU is going to have to be outscored for the Canes to win the game (similar to every game last year).
This isn't going to be a replay of the Florida game this year, it's going to be a replay of the Duke game last year.

I'll let Coach D run his defense because you clowns don't know a **** thing. If Stephen Morris doesn't pull his head from his *** it doesn't matter what the defense does against FSU because the game will be over. Stephen looks like ****.

Miami has 7 fumble recoveries and are tied for 17th in the nation through only 6 games. Miami has 11 INT's and are ranked 9th in the nation. Miami is ranked 11th in the nation in scoring defense. And that's while Stephen Morris is turning the ball over at breakneck speed.

Clemson was blitzing and giving huge cushion , that defeats the purpose of blitzing. They also were coming from the secondary late as **** when they did blitz. Fsu was just running to spots and sitting down, it was shooting fish in a barrel .

Coach D had the worst defense in Miami history last year so I wouldn't hang my hat on him always deploying the right scheme chump. Has the D gotten better. absolutely, Has the D looked like crap against two mediocre teams - absolutely. You shouldn't have to wait to the second half to make adjustments like we do against every good team we play. How about making adjustments before the game.....The OP is on point with his observation. When you are willing to give up 500 yards with soft schemes it is going to come back and bite you in the *** against good teams.

I've personally don't like the bend but don't break defense. It leads to a lot of nail-biter, last min, last second type of games.

So far it's been working for this team. If the offense keeps scoring points like we have been then we will be ok. Even against UNC without TO's, and FG's we would've dropped 40 points. This is a great offensive football team. Keep our foot on the gas and the rest will be just fine.

Did it ever occur to you guys that we play the way we do is BECAUSE we don't have a pass rush?

We were much more aggressive against Florida because our D-line was beating their D-line and they didn't have alot of weapons to beat us.

If we blitz more and play man against crossing routes like everyone wants, that opens up opportunities for QB's to scramble and for players to cover much longer man to man making us more vulnerable.

You can't fix things those things without being able to pressure the quarterback.

The quicker you guys get off the coaches backs and realize this isn't a quick fix, the less stressful your lives will be.

Umm we do have a pass rush.... When we have the right players in...(McCord, AQM, Gilbert) The problem is most of the Game were playing Chick and Shayon.. Did you even watch the game ?they were killing us in crossing routes and we were playing zones... There is a reason why some defensive coordinators are better than others.... T

While you are right, the problem with that is the it makes our DL play predictable and offenses will adjust. Yes Gilbert, AQM and McCord will create a pass rush but they are a liability in the run game. Chick and Green are stout against the run but not very good pass rushers, with Green being almost non-exsistent. So all in all the only time you want the pass rushers in are on obvious pass downs which is mostly 3rd and long, the other downs if they wanna pass they can and will have plenty of time unless we blitz. Until McCord and AQM can play every down, we will continue to have problems with this....

FSU's Wrs know how to get open in zone coverage, that much is easy to see. We are gonna have to mix it up against them.

If UM sits back in soft zone and lets wr and te run free - FSU will score at will - FSU does not turn the ball over often, so UM must challenge them and take it away - maybe game plan some off of BC

UM needs to have the mentality of BAMA on D - not want to give up one inch much less a yard or first down - I know we are not BAMA but that mentality serves them well as their D has improved throughout the year -

I'm curious to know if anyone watched the FSU BC game? I missed it but wondering what they schemed as they gave Jameis his toughest test (it seems). Dream scenario for us to have a chance in this game = is to get in his head......

http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/530308/jameis-winston

I think it was more that FSU wasnt taking BC seriously and BC punched them in the mouth. In the second half they took complete control of that game. The biggest thing you have to do is control the clock against them.

I'm not saying Coach D is a great coordinator, and I'm not saying he's perfect, but I think it's hilarious that people on message boards think they know more about coaching defense, and defensive schemes.

People saying coach D knows D more than we do or so dumb....you would think he would. At the same time its not us he should be worried about but oppossing OCs. I mean you would think

Its simple, I meant "are dumb"....not "or dumb". Dumb people saying people coach D, knows D as in defense, more than we do....we as in fans....is a dumb statement. I mean you would think he would. His job is to out think and outcoach opposing OCs, its Not to know more about defense than fans. Get it, got it? good

In general we're a much better defensive team at home. That's why I was a bit surprised and disappointed with our effort vs GT. As for the bend but not break, people need to realize that no DC is enamored with giving up yards but we aren't good enough on D to stifle multidimensional offenses. D's emphasis is on points because he knows that sometimes that's the answer. We're not going to stop FSU for instance no matter what ingenious strategy people come up with. Our best hope is a good offense and to be solid in the redzone and timely with turnovers. They'll be trying to win 35-30 or so with that formula. We're not going to stop that team on the road we couldn't stop Renner.

Last two weeks the offense has not helped the defense with all the turnovers and short drives. GT and UNC are fast tempo, so turnovers and quick outs are magnified. OFFENSE needs to control the ball better. TOP against FSU will be crucial.

No, not really. Are you seriously saying that people that say Coach D knows more defense than posters on a message board are dumb? How is that a dumb statement? People on here act like it's so easy, and if we just did "this" instead of "that" all of our problems would be solved. And that Coach D is so dumb, and such a bad coach because he can't see the obvious, and he's putting our players in a position to fail, which he can't see, but people who have never played or coached a day in their lives, can see this plain as day.

Funny thing is D No's defense is perfect for this game. Clemson tried bringing pressure and everytime they got burnt. The thing missing from D No's defense is we have no penetrating DT.....Valentine will transform this defense. We have gotten stout against the run which should give us a chance on third down.

Coley is more important in my opinion, he needs to keep Morris' throws down and pound the ball at them, not finesse runs Clemson was trying....power runs BC ran at them. We have the size upfront to do it

Pretty much this right here. Pound the rock with Duke and Dallas. Doesn't matter how they do it, power or zone, just continue to run it. Hagens will be key in this game, along with the TEs. Jack up their LBs, spring the RBs. Miami should run the ball 40+ times.

Shhhhh, the porsters know more than the coaches (especialy Coach D) so please don't stop them from directing our players.

Hahaha. This yards thing was put to bed but some will continue to bring it up. Also with the D last year, do you not see a difference? I know we should have had a top 10 D with those studs covering the field.
