Dolphins re-modeling Sun Life Stadium

I'm not sure how this ever gets funded with ANY taxpayer money after the Marlins' fiasco. First, any politician is going to be highly averse to supporting the measure. And second, the public certainly is massively jaded at this point and highly unlikely to finance this type of measure.

There are a number of things that have occurred over the past couple of years, that are totally out of the university's control, that make it seem like The U's return to prominence is destiny. (This is of course, is if you don't look at things through the spectrum of the impending sanctions)

- Joe Paterno not being forced out earlier at PSU, which could have led to the hiring of AG
- The Best Crop of South Florida talent in over a decade coinciding with one of the best recruiters in the country
- The decrepit Professional stadium that they play in receiving substantial upgrades
- Jimbo Fisher being employed by Florida State and not capitalizing on the downswing of The U
- One of the best recruiters in the country being unceremoniously let go at FIU and turning down offers to return to the U in an assistant capacity

These things don't have anything to do with the University and are out of it's control, but things have broken right for them

Hard to argue with your line of reasoning but at least the Dolphins don't have the Marlins reputation within the local community. Even before the whole stadium fiasco happened most informed South Florida fans knew the Marlins were shady and a bunch of thieves.

The Phins have sucked for a long time...but it's not due to a lack of effort or some sort of fire sale. I think South Florida fans know this is a different situation, at least I hope they do.

I still can't believe that whole thing actually went down, from him getting fired to returning to Maimi.

Great news for South Fla. indeed, but the remodeling should include a "remodeling" of the concessions menu....I had better cheeseburgers in public school for 2.75. Those are $9 sponges they are selling right now. :ohlord:

That's on the concessionaire that holds the stadium contract, Centerplate.

Sun Life was voted as having the dirtiest concessions in Major League Baseball like 2 years ago. It is wise to not eat a morsel of food from that place unless you want to propel yourself around the house later with a diarrhea jetpack.

The chicken tenders are delicious, though.

Wish I could agree with this. I'm certainly jaded as to the notions that politicians give a **** about what the electorate thinks about public spending.

For the pols there are more advantages to vote for public funds supporting a private venture than not:
Most of the voters will have no clue how they (politicians) voted on this issue.
If their election opponents bring it up they can respond with excuses of deflections.
It'$ an opportunity for graft.
As long as they can avoid a referendum they simply raise taxes (on tourists, the rich, for "job creation," whatever)

In order to support a great time for people who can afford to fly down for a Super Bowl weekend, we can all look up to higher ticket/food/parking prices the rest of the year. Yay!!!!

I've been to several Super Bowls in Miami, one in New Orleans, one in Palo Alto and it wasn't the fancy stadium that enticed me. IMHO fancy facilities are for the people who leave a tied game in the middle of the fourth quarter so they can beat the traffic. <end rant>

why are there seats missing from behind the tarps? doesn't look that way in the other photo renderings.

Canopy. Where the scoreboards currently sit does not work with a roof. So it appears the corners will be removed in lieu of the boards.

///oh I'd put the money line at +450 for this happening. One thing to remember Ross owns the stadium and surrounding properties; not the case with the Marlins. And Super bowl economic impact is way inflated. County does better with the Sony Ericsson, Boat Show and Art Basel. Dade, Broward conflict is another issue.

I wonder if they can construct 80K drunk fans screaming profanities bilingually at the other team from 10 yards behind their bench along with those old metal floors that we can stomp on.

****, I miss the old decrepit Orange Bowl.

@ Chuckles.... Money post my man. In the last 5 years Sun Life has hosted a Super Bowl, a Pro Bowl, and 2 BCS NC games. The stadium is nowhere near as dilapidated as it's made out to be. This is nothing more than a money grab.
