I'm not sure how this ever gets funded with ANY taxpayer money after the Marlins' fiasco. First, any politician is going to be highly averse to supporting the measure. And second, the public certainly is massively jaded at this point and highly unlikely to finance this type of measure.
Wish I could agree with this. I'm certainly jaded as to the notions that politicians give a **** about what the electorate thinks about public spending.
For the pols there are more advantages to vote for public funds supporting a private venture than not:
Most of the voters will have no clue how they (politicians) voted on this issue.
If their election opponents bring it up they can respond with excuses of deflections.
It'$ an opportunity for graft.
As long as they can avoid a referendum they simply raise taxes (on tourists, the rich, for "job creation," whatever)
In order to support a great time for people who can afford to fly down for a Super Bowl weekend, we can all look up to higher ticket/food/parking prices the rest of the year. Yay!!!!
I've been to several Super Bowls in Miami, one in New Orleans, one in Palo Alto and it wasn't the fancy stadium that enticed me. IMHO fancy facilities are for the people who leave a tied game in the middle of the fourth quarter so they can beat the traffic. <end rant>
