Do what BC did....

IMO, we gotta keep it tight into the second half to see how FSU responds. They've not been pushed in the second half all season, so Miami needs to push their conditioning. Chances are they could get tight and then get winded.

This is key, we tend to be better in the second half. We're conditioned well.

lets not do what BC did, they lost, and although were in it..it got out of hand in the 4th.

As long as we win the turnover battle and can stop FSU on third down, all we have to do is be Miami and we have a great chance to win

What is "be miami"? Since this is all we have to do I am dying to know.

I'd suggest watching some games this season. If you don't know how Miami plays then you probably haven't been watching.

that wasn't the point I was trying to make, Just saying it's stupid to say game plan around a team that was attempting to "stay in the game" against FSU. Of course BC was trying to win, but you get my point. we're undefeated, so is FSU. You're building into their hype too much. Golden and co. know what they are doing and they have their own game plan, and one that isn't to just "stay in the game"

Sorry, but that makes no sense. We are discussing what in our opinion we need to do. Of course everyone here takes into account what we've done all year. We aren't saying let's come out spread with Morris throwing the ball on every down. No, we are saying BC gave a blue print on how to attack this team and we should take our strengths and apply it to that blue print in a way that fits. I don't see anything wrong with that. Sure BC lost, but they also don't have the same talent level that we have.

Btw, I certainly hope we are not "Miami" of the last few games as you suggest....we have a lot to clean up.

I don't disagree with what you said, essentially we said the same thing depending on how you look at it.

Yes BC attacked FSU's weaknesses with their strengths and yes BC is not as talented as us...so even to say fitting our style/scheme/talent/strengths into a plan based on what BC did and expose FSU's weaknesses makes it something entirely different and not at all what BC did.

What coach in the country doesn't know already to attack the opponents weakness and play to their own strengths? I agree with your point I was just making a statement that the op's statement doesn't necessarily apply.

I do agree that they way we have been playing lately is not nearly enough to beat FSU. We need take care of the ball and play 10x better on third down defense if we're going to be in it.

Let's get one thing straight....us running the ball isn't an attempt to shorten the game. Us running the ball is playing to our strength.

We've got one of the best rb's in the country, a good (and big) offensive line, and also a very good backup RB.

Enough with this fear of FSU. If we lose it's cause our offensive line doesn't execute....not cause they are so much better. Morris can't throw picks and our O line must get push up front. If those 2 things happen I'll guarantee you right now this game goes down to the wire.

I agree 100%

If you look at what Boston College did against F$U to stay in the game it seems like a plan that we could effectively use as well. They won the time of possession battle by about 7 minutes which kept Winston and that offense off of the field for a good part of that game. They were extremely balanced and kept their defense on their heels for while the game was close as well. They ran the ball 45 times for 200 yards and they threw it 30 times for another 200. I think with our offensive line and running backs we could employ the same strategy which would also open things up for Morris and the passing game. If we can do that and limit the big plays by their offense we should have a great chance. Hopefully the coaches have popped that game tape in a few times this week. :neonu:

That would mean that we would have to be effective on 3rd downs, something we can't seem to do for whatever reason. I say our best chance is for Morris to get going early and soften them up so then we can pound them.

Exactly. If we can't improve on our third down conversions then we have no shot. If we start this game out with two or three 3 & outs it is going to be a very long day, similar to K-State last year.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see the massive talent discrepancy that others see. Its really Winston that makes them as good as they are right now. I think all of the talking heads are overlooking this. Pretty sure Golden, Coley and Coach D are gonna have some nice surprises for them come game time. I expect this game to be close late into the 4th quarter with us pulling it out at the end.

We are gonna win this game, I have zero doubts about it.

I think this game, more than any other, we really, REALLY need our TE's to show up (and Morris to find them). We need them to soften the middle so FSU doesn't get too comfortable run blitzing and safeties can't just camp over top the entire game.

Well football has become such a qb game, where if you have one your team looks reallly good and if you dont then your whole team hurts because of it. FSU lost alot of talent off last years team but this kid has them playing at a higher level because he is playing well and not making many mistakes. We need Morris to play how we expected him to play, though I believe we will lean on the running game, we cant just let them load up and not pay. We are going to need Morris to do what he does best and not miss opportunities when they present themselves..

First play from scrimmage for Miami should be Play Action Naked Bootleg Screen Pass to Warlord and let him rumble for 50 yards

BC was pounding the ball but they also mixed it up with timely passes to keep fsu off balance. They had a couple throw backs to their TE and he was open multiple times.

On Defense they mixed it up and came after winston, if not for the play before halftime hail mary they would of been in position. I think their D did a good job of bringing 5 and mixing their blitzes. I dont really see us do that much. Usually we have 4 downlineman and you know who is coming. BC crowded the line of scrimmage and confused Winston and the Oline and bought timely pressure to get to Winston. We like to stay in base D and unleash Shayon to cause pressure on early downs or hold edge. McCord comes on 3rd down.

I think we can cause issues with the front four if we stunt them and like you said mix coverage and blitzes . Winston will pick you apart in man if you watch the video not zone. Even Peyton manning has trouble reading defense at times.

BC has the formula that miami will use but I don't think Al will be as stubborn running the ball as BC was. BC had zero threat on the outside. Miami, otoh, can be as physical running the ball AND throw it. FSU will do what they did against BC - they'll load the box with 8-9 guys. That's no secret. As for Winston, he's deadliest when the defense rushes only 3-4 and drops everyone else back into zone. He waits patiently and often finds the right guy or scrambles.

The element of surprise that BC used with their sets will not be an advantage for us. The majority of BC's rushing yards came in the first 16 minutes of play. For the last 3 quarters, FSU held BC to a decent rushing total. FSU adjusted.

BC also took advantage of some special teams plays.

In the second half, they threw a long TD pass. The rest of the time was basically a two score game (with FSU up 2 scores).

Do what we do well and have been building toward. We just need Morris to have the game of his life - from an accuracy standpoint.

I recall FSU really moved quickly to clog up the middle when they saw a run. I can't recall the number of times our RB's run right into a plug, whereas, had they taken two directional steps to force them to commit, and the defense logically converged on the middle, then take off just a few yards to either the left or right - no one was there, as the entire line and LB's committed to plugging the middle.

Last year, I saw a Duke that would see the same thing, and bounce just a couple yards outside of the plugged up middle. And haul *** across open field.

FSU is quick to react, and that may be something our RB's should be very aware of. To take advantage of.

Lu, if we start of running the ball and force them to adjust I think we take that because then we can hopefully take advantage on the outside......the problem with BC was they couldn't get seperation. BC's WRs were terrible and once they used up all the gimmick plays they were screwed.
