Looking at the top two players at each position, do we have the talent and depth to be a top 12/playoff team?
QB -
- Carson Beck
- Emory Williams
Synopsis: With Beck we once again will have a 1st-3rd Round NFL Talent and #1QB in the Transfer Portal at the helm. Drop off from Cam obviously, but should still be a strong position group Emory can be a serviceable backup
RB -
- Mark Fletcher
- Jordan Lyle
Synopsis: Two really strong backs with experience. We should see more explosive runs from Lyle this year and Fletcher is very solid and reliable workhorse. Shouldn't see much drop off from last year. Depth is a concern though with two small scatback types (CWH and Pringle) next on the depth chart, Lofton to get some carries here too
TE -
- Elija Lofton
- Alex Bauman
Synopsis: Best football player on the team, excited to see Lofton shine this year. Could be a go to guy for Beck. Bauman is a very solid #2 as well
WR 1 -
- JoJo Trader
- Ny Carr
WR 2 -
- CJ Daniels
- Joshua Moore
WR - Slot
- Ray Ray Joseph
- Malachi Toney
Synopsis: Lots of question marks here compared to last year. Can JoJo step up and be a true #1. Can Ray Ray somewhat fill Restrepo's shoes. Do we grab a portal WR? How much of an impact do the freshman make (Toney, Moore, Upshaw)
LT -
- Markell Bell
- Samson Okunlola
LG -
- Matthew Mccoy
- Ryan Rodriquez
C -
- James Brockermeyer
- Nino Francavilla
RG -
- Anez Cooper
- Juan Minaya
RT -
- Francis Mauigoa
- Tommy Kinsler
Synopsis: Experienced and NFL talented (Francis & Bell potential 1st rounders with Cooper and Brockermeyer also draft-able talents, there's no reason our OL shouldn't be the strength of the team. Questionable depth behind the starting 5; will we see what Samson and Kinsler can do this year
DE 1 -
- Rueben Bain
- Malik Bryant/Cole McConathy/Hayden Lowe
DE 2 -
- Akeem Mesidor
- Armando Blount
Synopsis: Lots of talent at DE, but also alot of question marks. Can Bain get back to his 2023 Form? Who steps up in the group of Blount, McConathy, Lowe, Pickett, etc.? Seems like Lightfoot and Rudolph still need time and look thin. Do we have a real threat off the edge to scare QBs and OCs.
DT 1 -
- David Blay
- Justin Scott
DT 2 -
- Ahmad Moten
- Josh Horton
Synopsis: Really solid top 4 IMO. If Scott and Horton take a jump and with Damien Lewis as the new DL coach this could be one of the most improved and impactful position groups on the team. Alot of talent behind the top 4 too with Artavius Jones, and Donta Simpson, and Mesidor and Bain can slide inside
WLB 1 -
- Wesley Bissainthe
- Cam Pruitt
MLB 2 -
- Raul Aguirre
- Jaylin Alderman/Kelln Wiley
Synopsis: No real game changers and potentially weakest position on the team. Need a big time LB in the portal if possible. If our defense struggles, the LB position could be why. Good thing is our DC is LB coach.
CB 1 -
- OJ Frederique
- Ethan O'Connor
Synopsis:
CB 2 -
- Xavier Lucas
- Damari Brown
Nickel -
- Charles Brantley
- Dylan Day
FS -
- Zechariah Poyser
- Markieth WIlliams
SS -
- Zaquan Patterson
- Dylan Day/Jadais Richard
Synopsis: Does the DB room go from a weakness to a strength this year. Two All-ACC type CBs in Lucas and OJ. Experienced depth in Brantley and O'Connor. Outside of Poyser, the safety room is a question mark. Does Day take a big leap, is Patterson ready, do we try Jadais Richard or Damari Brown at Safety. IMO Damari would be a great SS to team with Poyser at FS
