Dmoney question on the defense

Y'all know I've been very vocal against this defense, but I can admit that the talent so far in Golden/Doritos tenure has been subpar. DL who can't rush the passer, safeties who can't make a play on the ball, LBs who aren't very athletic. Just not Miami caliber players all over.

But in their 4th year, I think we can all agree that we have talent all over the defense. May not have great depth, but we have good starting talent. Good enough that we shouldn't have to play a soft cover-3 all game long in hopes that opposing offenses will eventually make a mistake.

Good enough that the bend but don't break that teams with athletic-disadvantages run should no longer be run here. If we go out there Monday night and see the same passive defense that they ran week 1 against Maryland and going back to their time at Temple, then we know this soft defense is who they are and we can never expect an elite, play making defense at Miami under these guys.

Solid post from you

Some of yall would get your asses kicked if you were DC's.

Yall swear it's as simple as jamming WR's every play.

They're completely clueless. They aren't even aware that the '01 Canes ran PLENTY of zone coverage. It's how they wound up with so many picks, but it just so happened that they had two of the best defensive QB's the university has ever seen in Vilma and Reed.

Not even gonna front like I know all about Xs and Os but on today's game teams are running man and zone coverages at the same **** time. You will have one side of the field in zone the other in man, sometimes one side of the field will have both.

Simpleton fan babble. They hear some guy on a message board, who calls himself a coach or claims to have played football beyond HS, yell, "Quit giving such big cushions!," and that becomes the battle cry. Suddenly, if you're not in press coverage on every snap that's why you suck. Same thing with the look to the sideline thing with the offense.

So your giving another free pass this year ?

Exhibit A

We're not all ****ing idiots like you like to imagine. It's not about jamming a WR every play.

But when it's 3rd and 4 and our corners are 7 yards off the receiver then still bail at the snap it's not hard to see that won't work.

You're a bright guy, but, yeah, most of the guys on here puppetting the same goofy mantras that they heard someone else say are fcking idiots. Guys grab a play our two off YouTube and build their lives around it. There isn't a coach alive who has called a perfect game every week.

I would have fired them both last season and hired Petrino before UL did. ****, I built the Gus Bus. I would have hired Malzahn the last time we needed a HC. But we're stuck with these guys for at least another year. Hopefully, the talent upgrade will result in the top 25 defense we should field this year. If not, then heads need to roll because in the end it's a results game.

Enough said, did you forget the T ?

It's the same tired shi where dudes regurgitate the same BS over and over again, where they act like we only do one thing over and over again. Just like the 2 gap and spot dropping only BS, the play 7 yards off a WR every play is the biggest myth used by fans by far. Miami plays plenty of press coverage.

Wth do people think we were playing in the WF game when Artie got burnt on a 3rd & 10 to setup Wakes 2nd TD or on the 4th & 4/5 in the fourth qtr right before they took the lead late in the game. But all Miami does is play 10 yard cushion bail on 3rd down plays smh. Peeps should go back and watch the **** last TD drive WF had, before constantly spouting that stupid crap. iirc we played press man pretty much every play on that possession. Defense just sucked regardless of what coverage we played, not because we played 2 gap, drop zone, prevent defense all the time. Hopefully better talent and more understanding of the defense finally fixes all the mistakes that have plagued the defense.

No way to fire Al with the ncaa thing still going. But now it is time for judgement. He can play whatever type of defense he wants as long as it gives up less points EACH week than our offense and special teams score. Winning it what matters. I like our old style aggressive meet me at the QB and play run on the way, but I am not the coach. I will say that if team has any resemblance to the end of last year, I want Al fired mid season. We have two former Canes with NFL HC experience sitting out there without a coaching job. Hire one mid-season. That could save the recruiting class and maybe make it better. For me this year, one 500 yard game against the D is too many and requires someone's blood. Results are what matters and we have not seen any.

This is enough to make Dorito's head explode apparently. I just pray that better athletes = more wins.

I see two players that'll be wide open. First, is obviously that crossing route. When's the last time we properly covered a crossing route?

Second, that running back outta the back field. He'll definitely be running free.

All we can hope for is a sack, a batted ball, a drop, or a meteor hitting the planet because we sure as **** aren't going to stop them from getting open. And I mean country *** wide the **** open.

Gamecocks rolled out a new 3-4 scheme. Apparently there's no easy button for implementing it.

Spurrier: "How'd y'all like that 3-4 defense? We got man-handled tonight. We got clobbered. We've got some coaching decisions to make."

Corch must be reading CIS calling out the scheme and the DC. Went HAM in the post-game presser.

Those true freshmans CBs Lammons and Harris looked like pylons all night. They weren't very good defensively last year either, but they felt the impact of playing too many freshmans yesterday.

They gave up 700 yards yesterday, and it could have easily been 800 if Sumlin didn't ease up on the Old Ball Bag. I guess the OBB was being truthful a few days ago when he described his team as "decent".
Losing the best pass rusher in the nation is a big deal. You couple that with starting a bunch of freshmen in the secondary with out Clowney and it all snowballs into what happened last night. I am hopeful that having an older AQM and Chad Thomas will be immensely help our pass rush thus making everything else look better on defense.

Not the talent argument again. It doesn't work. Last night was another example. But spurrier even Paul Johnson won't put up w it. We might win Monday only bc Petrino was dumb enough to hire grant ham after Richt dropped his sorry *** defense. Fack. Pruitt dropped the *** *** scheme at FSU after several games. But golden.

And clowney played 4-3 DE

While I don't love the scheme, I'm more sick of seeing our defense miss three tackles on one play. How many of VT's big plays last year came from plays that we missed a tackle 3 yards out? The talent level should rise enough to fix this part at the very least.

And I hope they go to heaven but.... How many times were the same usual suspects missing those tackles and/or were so out of position they couldn't make the defensive play for a loss or for a short gain, and instead gave up huge chunks of yardage...not gonna name names but.... They gone.
