DMoney going live

And yes big names have reached out. To me they’re just that , big names.

There really aren't that many great QBs running around. Maybe 10 across all P4, and most are unavailable or going pro. And as you noted above, most of the QBs in the playoffs are good not great. Mateer was the only one who hit the portal that was a clear deviation better than the pack.

Which is why I think our coaches are talking out of both sides of their mouth. They are looking to be aggressive in the portal (and in private conversations). But until a legit option emerges, they will continue to back Emory as the guy.

Diego Pavia only has 10 letters in his name. Not exactly what I would call a “big name.”

****, I didn't see he won his court case. Now that's an interesting name. If he hits the portal, then I would absolutely be all in on him.

We were able to get Cam here after 2023. I don’t think it’s that hard to get a gb here after what cam has done. It feels like they are being very very selective because of their own confidence in Emory and that room. Right wrong or indifferent, I get it.

I would find it hard to believe we can’t get a solid quarterback here. If we don’t, it feels like that’s their own doing and decision. We will see when it’s done
There’s not a Cam in CFB this year. Tbh there’s not many good options or sure things. So either you out your eggs in an unproven transfer with big upside or take a safe option of a quality starter with a low ceiling.

We need another arm in the room regardless. Can’t have 3 scholarship QBs. I’ve always felt Mendoza was that safe option especially if the price tag is reasonable. Put the money elsewhere in the roster. Especially when you look at the playoff QBs last summer going into this year as you said:

-Howard: Great roster, but not really cream of the crop. Wasn’t our top option last cycle and was avg at KSU
-Gabriel: Great roster now and he was nearly pushed out by Oklahoma
- Rourke: We would loose our mind if we took an Ohio QB
- Riley Leonard: his 2023 was ugly (injury)
- Klubnik: up until this year, people probably considered him a bust
- Jennings: didn’t even start the year as the starter
- Ewers: lost a step this year, great roster.
- Beck: similar situation ^ great roster
-Arizona State: RS Freshman that didn’t even really play the year his true freshman year

Think it’s clear, you don’t need Cam Ward to have the success. The rest of the roster is the most important thing. Cam covered up a lot of holes here. Money might be better suited addressing those holes if you have a qb with a solid floor.

We all agree that if you are going to pay for a Mendoza you are doing it with the intention of giving him the starting job, right? You aren’t just adding him to the room.

Isn’t your last paragraph the correct strategy? Even when happy keep trying to upgrade.
