2024 DL Kamarion Franklin 2.0 (commits to Ole Miss)

Okay, getting back to reality

Is the DT recruiting just a combination of different circumstances:
- poor 2022 for Miami
- Recruits in hard to pull areas
- competing schools

Or is there a reason that clearly stands out?

Joe was an underwhelming hire going back 1.5 years. He hasn’t exactly excelled in recruiting while at Miami. Removing the Poly guys, I can’t think of any DTs that have being vocal on Joe’s coaching and development skills. Why didn’t he move on to nfl as was stated by DMoney?
I so wish we could’ve had Charlie Partridge. I think most of us do.

You know Charlie’s next step beyond Pitt is probably something like Ohio State, FSU, UiF, Notre Dame, Michigan or some other program where his coaching and recruiting will continue to inflict pain on our program.

No question and I trust him. We landed some out of state studs last year. But we also landed a lot of big time in state kids.

We have landed some nice kids over the summer. If FSU and UF didn’t have the classes they have it might be different around here. Let’s see how we close. Patterson would be nice. I believe if we start winning in the field we will land some 4 star kids and flip some kids for those that love the star game. Out of the 3 star players who don’t we really like? Anderson? Russell? There’s a few kids. But most of those kids look like they have game.
As much arguing as we do here I think most people feel mostly the same way

None of us really understand NIL so we are speculating

It’s not one thing. It’s not two things. It’s probably about 10 things and we kinda go back and forth arguing over which ones we think are most relevant

Last year we were an abomination on the field. People that point to poor records for other programs aren’t wrong, but also we are going on now like 20 years without doing much of anything and last year was even rock bottom for us on the field. We have to win some games and be relevant again.

Mario got a great first year bump and I think we were ahead of the game on NIL, but the rest of the world caught up and there’s market correction. Other programs are having a tougher time this year as well, and then some places took a beating last year and have bounced back. It’s still only year 2 of this madness and it’s truly wild to watch.

We’ve missed. A lot. No two ways about it, this summer has been rough, but yes we’ve got some good players in the fold for sure. There’s still time before signing day to make this class a winner. We will see some new names emerge, that’s just kinda Mario’s thing, but we’ve got a lot of work to do.

At the end of the day when you really think about it these kids for the most part are still going to the same schools that most would assume they would go to Pre-NIL. A 5 star kid from Texas choosing Texas is nothing new and neither is a highly rated kid from Mississippi staying in the SEC. Seems to me Franklin used Miami and Auburn for leverage to get the same deal at the school he wanted to go to in the first place.

Solution .... we need to up our cheating game and/or throw over-the-top NIL money at guys.

It's pay now or pay a lot more later.

Jones is probably 50/50 at best and Lightfoot has got to be looking around and saying WTF is going on around here. Someone hinted in here a while back that Lightfoot was sold on having some serious talent around him and as ER20 said "Joaquin said dominate and we not doing it!"

We can’t we are Miami.

People need to recalibrate their perceptions. FSU, Clemson, North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Louisville, NC State all finished better than us in the ACC last year. I’m not giving this staff props for coming up short, but the mere fact we were considered IS something considering all those teams stated weren’t.

It’s clear we’re consistently getting our foot in the door with top talent that, again, those schools listed are not. We again can see that with David Stone whose top 3 is OU, MSU and us. This staff has definitely been disruptive to the recruiting landscape nationally, and brought Miami back into the conversation consistently for top talent.

We simply just do not have the ability to sell much on field performance at this point and it’s hurting our ability to close. Absolutely need a good showing this year. We are on the cusp
Reminds me of 98’, when Butch had kids, talented kids, hungry kids. This group might be more talented. Let them play, let them know wins and losses. Let them settle into what they’ve bought into. Once the foundation is set, everything else is just building. We good.🙌🏽#CANESNATIONLIFER

If Mario recruited a class like Kiffin did last year this board would have gone nuts. And they are going nuts and we have 6-8 kids who are nfl prospects including Trader. Including two 4 star D ends. A 4 star backer, and a DT who is insane. I am confident this class will be in the top 10-13 when it’s said and done. But this program needs to show something. 6-6 we are screwed. 8-4 and don’t get destroyed and you can sell progress

While I'm with you on most of that, since when have the expectations ever been parallel for us and Ole Miss? You could drop Saban off there a year out of retirement (when he does retire) and still likely not end up with a top 10 class, maybe not even top 20.

In conference, where would you rank Ole Miss in the pecking order of desirable schools? How about when Texas and OU joins? At best, it would be a stretch, it's in the middle. I'd put them in the bottom quarter. Now add the teams from across the land.

My point is that it's a tough place to get top talent. They aren't taken very seriously. If Kiffin went to a premier school, do you think he recruits better there? I do.

Problem is yall bought into the hype that we'd secure the top dl class in the nation when there was no proof that would happen. So much was against us for that to happen.
-JT was an unproven coach going up against dudes with decades of proven development.
- We would have to go to Mississippi (Franklin goes to Umiss), Texas (Simmons goes to Tejas), California, Oklahoma (yeah Stone is at IMG but he's from. Oklahoma) and Illinois to get these elite kids all the while going up against schools that have been much better than us for the last 20 years.
- he did get Artavious (2nd ranked DL in Florida. Just got to keep him now)
- Mario ****ed around and produced the worst season of football we've ever had last year. Don't blame kids for saying thanks but no thanks.

So, yeah. I commend the effort but I for one never expected them to pull those kids. Just realism. Maybe a great season allows us to flip some of those kids. Who knows?

Now if next year he doesn't lock up a local kid like Blount them yeah, DT recruiting will always be a problem for him.

Anyways, I've been drinking on some Rebecca Creek since noon and I'm feelin it and wanted to share.

XOXO.
